It's Another World... September 12, 2009 Doting Aunt (Long Island, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm by no means an experienced game player, but tried a trial of World of Goo, and was instantly hooked. I got my copy from Amazon, and while I still haven't cracked the entire game, I find it more entertaining than most of the seek and find stuff that's out there. Basically, the game calls for you to link together a series of 'goo' balls, which will eventually be dropped into a goo collector. Sounds silly, and it is, but you'll find you have to think about how to get your goo balls from one place to another. There's good graphics, and music that will haunt your brain for days. So sorry the makers went into bankruptcy, I'd love to see what else they could do!
World of Goo Addiction September 11, 2009 Stacy L. Mcwhorter I bought this game for my brother-in-law and my husband, and it seems as though it should be a kids game but even the adults are addicted to this game. It has a lot of strategy and neat twists to it that allow the architect in you to come alive.
Unbelievably addictive August 15, 2009 Daniel Leithauser (Grand Junction, CO USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
World of Goo may seem like it moves at the speed of goo, but it truly is fun and challenging. The physics at work force you to think what will support a structure or collapse. The puzzles can truly make you grin or groan after you fail a number of times. Nonetheless, you keep coming back. It is simple and complex. It is for children and adults. If you just want to take a quick break from your work, or more complex games -- this is it. The price has continually gone down... what are you waiting for... this is the new Tetris!
Much better than both the free demo and video clips August 14, 2009 Patrick Moore LMT BA (tucson) I downloaded the free demo and it is nothing like the real program. Also the video clips do not do justice to the game play.
I bought this game on faith because of the customer reviews and they were right!
I bought it for my 10-year old stepson to play, but I enjoy it as much as he does--maybe a little more.
I enjoy creating bridges and towers from triangles and pyramids. While hanging down a rope, how would you create something that reaches into a cave? Well, you'd have to hang an equal weight on the far side to balance your structure... How would you create a floating tower? well, the base would have to...
And as I sleep at night, I get the feeling that the little goo creatures are a metaphor for something real and living--cells? superstrings? buckyballs? Chi?
The first challenge is to create any structure that accomplishes the goal, no matter how overbuilt it is. Then to go back and do it a second (third...) time as efficiently as possible--these are the exact constraints that structural engineers must work within.
I believe this game will teach a young person to have a more realistic concept of physics and applied mathematics, including gravity, floatation, balance of forces, wind, bouyancy, more patience, appreciation for archetecture, and for natural structures.
Add to this it is non-violent, with very low level of competition (just enough to motivate you to go back and do a better job on your second try). I couldn't recommend this game more highly as an educational software and addictive fun!
Piano Incentive August 10, 2009 K. Lansford I bought "The World of Goo" at the suggestion of my daughter-in-law as a birthday gift for my 9 year old grandson. When I asked if he liked it, I was told that he loves it so much that it has become the most effective incentive yet for getting him to practice piano. He keeps track of every minute of practice and proudly announces upon reaching his goal that he can now return to the World of Goo.
