Amazing game. November 7, 2008 Ernest (U.S Air Force) 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
This game defiantly outshines the first one. Horde turned out to be the best idea that was added to the game very very addicting, to the point that it takes your attention off the actual campaign to blast waves and waves of bad guys. Horde is really a good way to tests your shooting and evasion skills and as well as communication as a team of 5, basically watch each others back or die. Great great game!!!
Gears of Garbage 2 November 7, 2008 Shawn Stowell 18 out of 78 found this review helpful
Now before i start i want to say i loved Gears of War 1. With that out of the way, Gears of War 2 is a complete disaster. From the moment i popped it into my 360 Elite to when i popped it back out after a couple hours of campaign and a few games of multiplayer. I already sold it back to GameStop. Epic should change their company name to Epic Fail because they sure did drop the ball on this game.
Where do i even start? I guess i'll start with the campaign. It's decent, just a Gears of War 1 rehash, nothing more. Definitely forgettable. The dialogue is completely childish and immature this time around throughout the entire game. Dom does nothing but [...] all game, it gets really old after about the first mission. It just feels so clunky and thrown off.
Now onto my favorite mode and what kills the game for me, Multiplayer. What the heck was Cliffy B smoking when he made this game? The multiplayer is a sheer disaster. Instead of being able to chose what type of game mode you want to play you have to vote now. You can't even choose your team. It's like Halo 3 gone wrong. It's just bad. The shotgun, which was the best weapon and most fun in Gears of War 1 has been completely dumbed down and is now one of the weakest weapons in the game. This game caters to all the Gears of War 1 cry babies that sucked at the game. If you were a lancer noob from Gears of War 1 this game will probably be right down your alley.
1/5 stars, would of gave it zero if i could. Don't buy this game, don't even rent it. Save your money, Gears 2 is just a rehash of the first game that hasn't improved at all. Buy Resistance 2 for the Ps3, it's the best shooter this generation and the best i've ever played. R2 is easily Game of The Year

Fun not necessarily better than GOW 1 and way easier November 7, 2008 Me (Florida) 3 out of 12 found this review helpful
At this time I have finished the game in campaign mode and found it way too easy in contrast to the first one which even if I play now it feels harder.
Anyway, the game plays and feels just like the first one, this means that you get all the same fun. There are new weapons and enemies added and this adds a bit of freshness. Also, the AI for the enemies has improved in some areas, for example, they can now heal each other just as COG's can. I really like that. On the other hand, I know they are supposed to be smarter but they do not seem too much, in some cases I could notice that they were still very dumb.
Overall, it feels more like playing an expansion to GOW 1 than a new game, usually expansion packs offer innovations and additions to game play besides extra play time. This is exactly what GOW 2 feels like.
BTW, what a lame idea that of the worm and giant fish fight, what were the designers thinking? That was the most ridiculous thing they could have come up with and a waste of game time besides being overly easy.
The game should have been harder than the first not easier. They could have made it as stressful as the hoard mode when you are in waves 8 or 9 and made the monsters surround you and almost overwhelm you at times, they chose the easy path and that was disappointing. A war game is supposed to immerse you into the battle and make you feel the incredible anxiety and stress for being there and trying to survive, they could have done this but chose not to.
Definitely boss fights were tougher on the first. And the sense of completion was there when you reach them, not so with GOW2. The last mission was incredibly easy and lame as well, and the final monster was the easiest of all, just point and shoot with the hammer of dawn. I though there was going to be something else after him, but not, the game ended there! I was hopping for a battle with the queen, even if she still escaped and thus gave a better hint for the third game.
BTW, they can still have a 3rd and 4th games, the 3rd is obviously set now, the 4th could be simply GOW 0 (yes zero) how did all this happen? Nice idea and worth a lot of money for the developers. :)
In my opinion the game is still worth the money, the flaws introduced in this one do not diminish its value, but definitely they could have made it better. :)
Just Straight Up Fun and Amazing!!! November 7, 2008 Alexander R. Girouard 4 out of 13 found this review helpful
I have only played the first level so far, and it's far better than Gears 1. Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but who cares about not being able to play with a "guest" or w/e. Thats what xbl is for and system link up is for.
I just want to know when I'm going to get my $10 gift card so I can use it on Fallout 3, another great game from what I have heard. If you have a 360 and are not a little kid (very annoying online), please buy this game. You will be glad you did.
