An honorable contribution to the Hall of Fame Games of all Time November 10, 2008 Damon Seth Porter 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
Gears 2's campaign is a fantastic thrill-ride, laden with movie-like camera angles and effects, solid voice acting, impressive moments of peril and passion, and gore that could very well burst into your face if your screen wasn't there. This campaign experience is indubitably larger and longer than the first and keeps your interest throughout- several boss fights, tons of sticky situations where tactics must be utilized, and fantastic creature varieties redefine this Gears experience. The new cover system is ridiculously polished, there are no hickups between running to cover or switching to better sides of cover that occurred frequently during Gears of War 1. A word of caution mind you, this game is not for the squeamish in any way with or without gore. Even with family setting to block the gore and language, a few levels in particular which I will not spoil get kinda messy.
Multipayer has been slowed down and polished to accommodate for new players. For instance the shotgun has a slower rate of fire and players run slower. This has upset hundreds of Gears of War veterans all around the world but I find the changes refreshing to say the least.
So go forthwith, soldier of the COG, and squelch the fire of the genocidal Locust horde. Humanity rests its salvation on your staunch shoulders.

very nice, gears of war 2 is cool because I feel the game has even more action then the first one. now you get to here the more story of marcus and dom. You get more weapons, and the enemies can get really creepy. graphics are really great the movement is also a huge plus.If you like the original gears of war you will love this one.
Game was worth the wait November 9, 2008 P. Zakaria 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Lol, some people say that the game plays too similar to the first, ummm thats the point, its a sequel, if they changed all the characters to flying bunnies then no one will buy it.
The game is much more balanced now, people who think the weapons are unbalanced fail to realize the amount of time the Epic spent getting everything just right.
The campaign is great, it is not forgettable, the managed to captivate my attention with every cut scene.
OVERALL this game is awesome and you should buy it. And if they add a few more new features in the third game and polish a polished product even more then be sure that I will buy that one as well to conclude the trilogy.
Oh and to the people who dislike this game because it is too similar to the first I have a recommendation for you, dont buy/watch/eat anything with the "number 2" in it.
A more than worthy sequel November 9, 2008 N. Durham (Philadelphia, PA) 2 out of 7 found this review helpful
Gears of War was THE game that made an XBox 360 worth owning, quickly becoming an action game classic that set new standards for the genre. Now we finally have Gears of War 2, a game that while not as jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring as the original, still manages to improve on many aspects of the original, while at the same time providing the same spectacular action elements that made the first game so good to begin with. The storyline gets expanded here with this sequel, as Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago prepare to make a last stand against the Locust as mankind's days appear to be dwindling down. In terms of overal gameplay, not much as changed since the first game, but then again, not much had to either. There have been some minor refinements in terms of the game's cover system, and the difficulty seems more forgiving this time around as well, although it doesn't detract from the moments where the game can be quite challenging. Drop-in co-op support and XBox Live multiplayer modes are where the real meat of Gears of War 2 is to be found, and the assortment of new weapons, some brutal new attacks, gorgeously rendered environments, and some unforgettable enemies make this game a sequel that measures up to, and in some cases even surpasses, the original. It's definitely one of the absolute best games you'll play on the XBox 360, and it goes without saying that Gears of War 2 is an essential pick-up. Now here's hoping that Cliffy B. and the rest of the crew at Epic Games keep up the great work in crafting what very well may become a legendary video game series.
