First off, please understand that I am a huge gears fan. Gears 1 was undoubtedly mike favorite game on any system, hands down. Even with all of it's quirks that many complain about, it was still the best game for me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that is mine.
As for the second, I think the overall game was good. The campaign was a little longer than the first, but not too long. I personally prefer this over a super long campaign that gets boring during play. I just can't get into games like GTA 4 that take forever and have a lot of boring things to do while you are trying to play it. I know they are different genres of games, but just using that extremely long campaign as a comparison. Gears 1 and 2 have great campaigns and gameplay that I think are unrivaled by other games. Again, just my opinion.
My problem with this game is the multiplayer. That is what kept gears 1 so interesting for such a long time. Even with all of it's quirks(host advantage, glitchy play at times) I think it is the best multiplayer that I have played to date. Gears 2 was supposed to address these issues, but instead changed the feel of the multiplayer and didn't fix anything. Lag still is an issue. I have noticed a drastic difference in gameplay with different hosts. Load times are long, also. On top of that, the overall gameplay was altered a lot. I know this is a new game, but being such a huge fan of the first makes adjusting to the second very difficult. I am sure I will get used to the new feel of the game over time, but it seems to leave the original faithfuls of gears 1 a little frustrated.
In order to be completely fair, they did add a new type of multiplayer called Horde that is very good. I think this is one of the most enjoyable games I have played on multiplayer that involves computer controlled characters. This mode is what salvaged the overall review of gears 2. I would have dropped the overall score down to three if it wasn't for this cool addition.
All in all, I am still a huge fan of gears. Without a doubt, it is my favorite gaming franchise. If this review seemed overly critical, it is only because I am a huge fan of the franchise and am going to critical of my favorite games.
In conclusion, the game is still a must own in my opinion. Great graphics, great campaign gameplay, and some cool new features. If they work on the multiplayer a little, it could take this four star rating to five without a problem.

Online takes 20+ minutes to get started. Horrible lag, horrible game physics, and unbalanced weapons. The campaign took all of 8 hours to complete and my character got stuck 3 times where I had to restart the chapter. Don't buy this game, it's just a crappy upgrade to the first GOW.

Gears of War 2 is a great sequel to the original Gears. The game has some different weapons, locusts, and larger playing areas. I really enjoy Gears of War 2 and was not disappointed. The game is not drastically different from the first in terms of playing style. you will be able to jump right and in get going where you left off in the original Gears. It seems like some players were looking for a completely different game. I bought this game because the original Gears was so great. The story line is really good and the battles are more intense than ever. I highly recommend picking up this game. You won't be disappointed.

Like most fans of the first, I have been waiting for GOW2 since the announcement was made.
EXCELLENT game....you must play the first to appreciate the second.
cool new creatures....nice new weapons.
The only negatives I have to say about GOW2:
1. Thought there would be more Bayonet fighting- sword style. (Like the image on the back suggests).
2. I began playing the game late Friday evening, and I finished it Sunday Morning. This was very disappointing, and the only reason I gave it 4 stars.
Not sure if it is worth $[...] bucks to have the game end 1 day later....but I still think it is cool.

the campaing mode is incredible and horde mode is just intense action all the time, its just an amazing game
