Terrible game for single player June 23, 2009 215Champion (Arizona) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
While i tend to enjoy games concernig zombies and such, i thoroughly disliked this game. It has to be the most repetive and unoriginal game i have ever played.
The graphics did look pretty good but other than that it was a terrible game. What the entire game amounted to was running through either the woods or some building and shooting zombies who came out of nowhere, Reach a certain point and press a button then fight off a horde of zombies, then get into a safe room. There isnt much more to the game than that. I would highly recommend you to rent this game before you buy. Dont waste your money like i did on a game that is very disappointing.
looking for some fun? June 23, 2009 Derrick Jenkins (Hampton VA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
then Left 4 Dead is the game that you just need to play. As it gives you the opportunity to take the place of one of four survivors. As they battle their way out of multiple campaigns fighting what else? The undead of course with many different looks from the Boomer that explodes and leaves a goo on you that attracts regular zombies at a crazy clip. The hunter that leaps from great distances to try and slash you to death. If you hear a distinctive growl in the background best believe, it isn't far behind.
Or the smoker that uses a long tongue attack to drag you to it and attack you. Upon defeating it leaves behind a rather nasty cloud smoke that blurs your vision and causes you to cough for awhile. The witch that is better left alone or your just begging for a world of hurt. She is one of the powerful enemies in the game.
Well next to the Tank, not a real one. But a zombie that is sooo built and bulked up. You'd swear he OD'd on steriods and would Jose or Sammy a run for their money.
Also their 4 different campaigns to play through and while the enemies may be the same here. Their placement in each individual scenario isn't and that's where it gets different. Weapon and item placement also changes as well. So it causes you to think a bit more about item usage. You are able to heal yourself, but also able to revive your teammates that have fallen in battle. They are also able to do the same for you.
The action in Left 4 Dead is fast paced with a bit of tension and surprise mixed in. While the campaigns themselves aren't that long being able to mix it up and change things a bit. It makes the game more than interesting for however long you choose to play it. I'm already looking forward to the sequel.
But as it stands now this one gives me what I want and need. Pure, unadulterated mayhem and action. All rolled into a fun and free-wheeling zombie killing fest.
Great Multi-Player June 23, 2009 Won Lee (Jersey City, NJ United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Greetings,
There is no reason not to own this game. It is, arguably, the best multi-player online game on the market. After playing for a short time, one quickly realizes that L4D was a game specifically designed for multi-play.
Another feature is that the Survival Mode DLC isn free. We need to support game publishers that reward their customers with a free DLC that is great.
Good game but gets old after a while June 18, 2009 Viper (Chicago IL) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First off if you don't have Xbox Live don't even bother buying this, this is strictly a multiplayer game. There is a single player campaign with A.I team mates but it's not as fun. If you've ever wanted to know what it would be like to experience a zombie appocalypse with other people, well then your in for a treat here. This is probably the closest thing you'll get to an interactive zombie movie. There is also an AI director which controls enemy numbers, enemy placement, weapons placement ect. Sadly there are only four campaigns in the game and once you memorize the levels, the game gets repetitive after a while even with the AI director. Also there are a lot of douche bags online too. This is by no means a bad game, it's very fun but it can get a bit old after a while. However if you love zombies or just shooting anything that moves then I recommend picking this up, there's nothing more satisfying after a stressful day at work or school then popping this game in and blowing away hundreds of undead.
Could have been a lot better. June 17, 2009 Ellen Wynne 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is probably one of the most repetitive games I've ever played. And one of the most plain games I've played.
If you play one campaign, there's really no need to play the next three. The levels look and feel a bit different but overall they're the same. You do the same thing and encounter the same enemies in rather predictable spots. And don't bother playing offline, the single player experience is horrible because the AI is so dreadful. You'll find yourself alone a lot and other times stuck in between the zombies and your teammates. And you can forget about them reviving you, if you go down with just 10 zombies nearby, it's a safe bet that the AI won't get you before they themselves die. And there's no real difference between each survivor except their voice and look.
Online however is different, you can even play as the infected. If you play as the infected you have more options, as they all have different abilities. The smoker restricts survivors and pulls them with his tongue, the tank is incredibly strong andpummels survivors with brute force, the hunter can pounce from a great distance, and once on top he can to some real damage, and the boomer vomits on survivors, his bile attracts hordes of zombies.
Another downfall is there are only two tiers of weapons, one with the Uzi and shotgun the other with the assault rifle, combat shotgun and sniper rifle. The Uzi and assault rifle are almost the same, to be honest I never noticed a difference. The shotguns however aren't, the combat shotgun holds more rounds and fires faster. It was pretty much the only weapon I used as it can kill a lot more enemies. The only useful thrown weapon is the pipe bomb, as it attracts the zombies to its position. The molotov isn't bad, but if I have to pick one it's the pipe bomb hands down. And you can only carry one primary weapon plus your pistol. It would have been much better if you could swap your pistol for a shotgun or assault rifle.
The zombies are also pretty freaking quick, they're on you before you even know it, but that makes the game a bit more entertaining.
All in all, this game can get boring pretty quick. There's just not many options other than shoot through each level. To be honest it's a game you either love or you hate.
