5 out of 5 stars Great action/adventure game.   November 1, 2009
Ian E. Mcgonigal (Yokota AFB, Tokyo, Japan)
I got this game for free, along with Halo 3 when I bought my xbox. My wife had played Fable 1 and told me that it would probably be awsome. I was kind of exited to play this game because I heard that the fable games were based on morality, and if you did bad/good things it would effect your appearance.

The game is an action/adventure hack and slash. The the roleplaying element is based on what skills you choose, what equipment you equip, and how evil or good you are.

I played all the way through and was blown away. The graphics were amazing. The scenery was bright with colors and detail. There were only some cave scenes that I need to turn up the brightness.

The game mechanics have a lot of detail as well, you have a large range of options as to spells and abilities. It seems the best way to win the game is to pick one track, magic/ranged/melee, and just smash the skills your good at. It's easy to fall into doing the same moves over and over again for hours. That kind of gets boring without storyline or something to distract you from the repetition.

The storyline was fun and full of side quests. It is easy to steamline the main quest and skip a lot of side quests though. The first time I played through the game I skipped almost every side quest, I went back and finished them all. The majority of the side quests are kind of similar how ever. example being, here is a plot element, kill this group of people, return.

This game kind of reminds me of the Sims. You can manage houses and there furniture, marry, have children, and get a job. But, in addition it's a fantasy hack and slash, and you can destroy and ruin everything you build.

There are so many side quests and little small things to do the replayibility is awsome. There are opjects and objectives all over the map. You can spend ages trying to find all the annoyiong grargoyals, keys, demon doors.

My biggest problems with this game is that it was too easy, they should have emplimented some difficulty setting or something for people that get too good at it. I could be wrong though, I haven't played the DLC. Maybe the DLC is more difficult. The storyline is a tad too short too, I beat the game in just a couple go's.

Overall the game was amazing, just short of being perfect. The hype for this game is well founded. What other game can you score with hookers, make leud gestures at children, and steal from the poor. I aplaud the Lionheart video game makers over in England for introducing so much mature humor to the gaming world, and not being afraid to go there. I look forward to playing the DLC, and picking up Fable 3 whenever it comes out.

3 out of 5 stars WAY TOO SHORT   October 29, 2009

I am a huge fan of the fable series. Coming off fable and fable the lost chapters. This game at its best was only mediocre. It lacked depth like its previous. Yes the graphics were better and the game had a dog as your pet. But thats about all it had. Game was too short way too short. The magic spells wernt anywhere near as many as the original fable. I was expecting much much more from this game. Character customization isnt all that original. Yes you change as you grow to look more and more demonic or more holy but its only really sudal changes. The addition of family and children is a nice new thing but its subpar. Buying property and getting gold by doing jobs is fun and rewarding when your wallet starts bulking up regularly. All and all i can only reward this game with 3 stars siting that its way too short and lacks the gameplay and complexity of the original.

4 out of 5 stars Solid game so far   October 21, 2009

I only give this game 4 instead of 5 stars because it had a bit of a slow start. I've since gotten going further into the game and its getting better. I really like the concept behind the game. I like the large explorable world where you are free to roam and do as you please. I'd recommend it to anyone who is a fan of rpgs, especially MMOers looking for a single player experience.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   October 16, 2009

The beginning is too slow. I don't have the time anymore to play a game and hope it gets interesting. I loved the first FABLE, but I also found the beginning of that one to be slow. The same goes for this game. Too much time is spent running around doing stupid things. It should get more interesting faster! However, because I lost interest and stopped playing the game early on, perhaps it does get better.

I really looked forward to this game. I loved the first Fable and still play it once in awhile, so the sequel was top of my list for new games to buy when it came out. I was very disappointed! Some of the best things about the first Fable were absent from the second. Molyneux explained a couple of these-1) the mini map has been replaced by a golden trail you follow along the ground. The reason for the change? Players were spending a lot of time following the map and missing the wonderful scenery (it is wonderful). 2) The armor is no longer available. The reason? Players all wanted the best armor so ended the game looking alike. For a game that is supposed to rely heavily on choice, important choices have been taken away, decided instead by the developers as what would be best for us, the players.
It would have been more appropriate to give us the choice to use the mini map or armor instead, in the game.

The characters are incredibly unattractive. The female character as she gets stronger, takes on a very male appearance. What does that say?

The loot sucks, plain and simple. You can find most of it in the store. There is very little discovery of wonderful items.

On the plus side, the graphics are beautiful. The music too.

I think they managed to take a great deal of the fun out of what was one of the best games out there. I hope future games will include what they removed from this one. Either way, I will rent the next one before choosing to buy.
