Almost perfect keyboard for games and work January 11, 2008 M. Stevenson (Eugene, OR United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I originally bought this keyboard in anticipation of getting a new computer. I never did get the computer, but this keyboard is staying regardless and has kicked my original (decent) Dell keyboard into the 'sell' box in the garage. I even hook it up to my work laptop when I'm at home as it's so much more comfortable to use.
Things I LOVE about this keyboard:
* GLOWING KEYS!!!
With TWO levels of glow. This is the absolute best feature whether you play games or not. Sometimes I prefer the lights low in my office and I can still see the keys. I get frustrated with my wife's computer when I use it because I can't read the keyboard in the low light. Ok, I know, get a lamp, but that just isn't as fun!
* LCD Display
I love having the clock, date and time on there in the format that I want. If you're picky about your computer performance you can watch memory and CPU usage. Media player information shows up there as well if you play your music via Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes and several other players. Countdown timer might be useful for reminding kids (or yourself) when to stop playing. Folds down out of the way, too, if you don't need/want it.
* KEYBOARD FEEL
Nice responsive keyboard. I type pretty fast and this keyboard doesn't slow me down. Solid feel on the keys so I can tell when they're pressed, but don't have to press hard either. No loud clicking as well (I hate loud keyboards)
* 18 MACRO KEYS (CUSTOMIZE YOUR KEYBOARD)
Actually, it's more like 54 MACRO KEYS because you have M1, M2 and M3 buttons to switch between 3 sets of custom keys PER PROFILE. You can also set up a Profile PER APPLICATION and program all the keys for M1-3 for each as well. For games, check out the pre-defined profiles for some of the more popular ones or download profiles posted by other users and import them in.
* MEDIA PLAYER AND VOLUME CONTROL BUTTONS
Yes, many keyboards and computers come with these standard. But the player buttons GLOW and the volume is an easy to use, non-glowing but easy to see, 'spin disk' that you can operate quickly and easily with one fingertip.
* WINDOWS KEY / GAME 'SAFETY' SWITCH
Don't you hate it when you accidently press the WINDOWS button while playing a game and it stops to pop up the Windows Start menu? Well, slide this switch and you no longer have that problem. SWEET!
* MOD-able
Yes, there is a developer kit to allow you to add more features to the LCD screen. Or just download and install one from some geeky programmer.
THINGS THAT COULD BE BETTER (these are mostly just minor issues, nothing that would stop me from buying it again):
* LCD isn't QUITE as useful as I thought it might be - wish I could put ANYTHING on there without having to write some code (or at least have a few more options out of the box).
* Can't choose other non-standard media players for the media player display on the LCD (there may be a MOD out there though)
* LCD control buttons do NOT glow. Don't understand this one. A minor quibble though.
* Media Player control keys are hidden under the fold-down LCD. This is sort of good, but problematic if you don't want to look at the LCD but need the controls. At least the MUTE button isn't tucked under there.
* Button that turns the GLOW feature on is NOT lit when the rest of the keyboard is dark -- makes it hard to find in a low light room.
* Keyboard is wider than a standard keyboard so you may need to measure your keyboard tray before buying (or just get a bigger desk - it's worth it!)
* No time-out feature to turn off the glow when not in use for X number of minutes.
Overall, LOVE this keyboard and really can't live without it now. Logitech quality is here and you can't go wrong with this keyboard whether your needs are simple or complex.
Excellent December 29, 2007 R. S. Yingling (Florida) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I actually purchased this for my husband for Christmas. He had been looking at them for months at a local computer store, but wasn't sure if he really wanted it. He loves it!! Easy key set up, nicely lit key board and very functional. Highly recommend!
BEST GAMING KEYBOARD December 28, 2007 R. C. Maya (USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Prose: This is the best gaming keyboard I've ever used. It gives you stats on the game you are playing and it offers many different functions other keyboards do not. I play BattleField 2142 on this and it works and feels great. It also offers 2 extra USB plugs behind the LED screen.
Cons: It is kind of pricy and it takes up a lot of space. The LED does not work for every game out there, only the newer games.
Great keyboard, poorly made in some respects December 27, 2007 John Peterson 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a keyboard I have been very happy with it. I used to play WOW and other computer games but I never really needed to use the hotkeys I set up (though it was easy to set up). I mostly use the keyboard for typing and multimedia.
The controls are nice and the LCD shows what you are listening to. I am the kind of guy who likes the new gadget. (I got an ipod touch recently).
Pros
-Easy to type
-Backlit is GREAT- I will never use a non backlit keyboard again
-Easy to set Macros
Cons
-Big con - Paint wears off. This is a common problem after a good month or more of use. This is not a deal breaker but it certainly is the reason that I won't give it 5 stars. Although, if you are unhappy with the keyboard, Amazon is awesome at returns.
VERY cool toy for the geek dad December 25, 2007 M. Miller (Central IN) Bought this for my husband who is a little geeky. He absolutely loves it. He was pleasantly surprised at the tracking of the LED screen. While in-game it scrolls through team & individual stats & other vital information. He said it's like having a much smaller monitor that constantly tracks & displays important information. Of course, don't forget the easy to program macro keys.
