 Great toy for a preschool boy! October 19, 2009

I bought this pirate ship for my 3 year old son's birthday. He has really enjoyed playing with it - making the pirates talk, finding the treasure, and making different parts of the ship move. I like that it encourages him to use his imagination to make up a story. I do think the cannon is a little touchy. Sometimes the middle cannonball shoots when you haven't touched the button. Also it is too hard for him to put the loaded cannon in the ship without the balls shooting out. Maybe when he's older he'll be able to do it. I appreciate that the ship is sturdy enough that my 1 year old can bang it and lean on it without breaking it. I was a bit frustrated that the "add on" sets were so expensive, but I think the ship is a good value.

We have purchased several Imaginext toys for our 3 year old son and so far they all have been great. Up till now we have been very satisfied and they all have been a lot of fun and function perfectly. Sorry to say but we are not very impressed with the pirate ship. Great idea but it is very limited in what "it dose" and the few functions that it has do not work very well. I think that they could have done a better job in the design and could have made it so that it would be a lot more fun and functional. We bought the Research Boat at the same time and it is A LOT BETTER. The pirate ship just sits while the other boat gets played with everyday. Would not recomend this as a primary toy and would instead buy the Reasearch Boat.

We got this for our son's sixth birthday and he loves it! He had a pirate-themed birthday party, so it was the perfect gift. The only slight issue is the center cannon on the triple doesn't fire properly. I called F-P and they were happy to replace it, but the toy has been discontinued and there are no more cannons to be had.
However, I still highly recommend this toy! It has so many cool features and my son (and 8.5 year old daughter) love playing with it. I love it because it uses all imagination and no batteries!!!
The other thing we LOVED about this as parents is the frustration-free packaging. It's the BEST! Easy on you and very easy on the environment.

Got this for my 3 year old. He loves the pirate ship!! He even takes it in the bathtub. So far, the water has not seemed to have done any damage. Don't let them take it in the sand though. He did and now the anchor doesn't wind, the plank barely lets in and out, and one other thing doesn't work anymore. Of course, it doesn't bother him too much. Great toy, especially if your kids like playing with pirates.

My grandsons (5 and 7 yrs old) are pretty lively, and this toy has given them much enjoyment. We adults liked the packaging, and the problem some parents reported of the boat coming in half seems to have been eliminated. Our boat is all one piece.
