Best Space Shuttle on the market January 6, 2009 Momma Kirstin (Northern California) This is the best Space Shuttle on the market. My 5 year old a) loves to build b) wants to accomplish things c) is obsessed with Space Shuttles. So this is a no brainer. Has all three bennies, not to mention that it's durable because it's soft, not hard. When it hits something, it bends rather than breaks. And of course, for all of us parents, it doesn't damage the house. It's not a stagnant boring toy because you can use each part in different ways. The Shuttle can have wheels or not, can connect to the booster or not, the alien ship can have wheels or not, the satellite accessories can also be attached to all three items The alien also has suction cups, so we now play with it in the bath. I'm telling you, this is an excellent toy. We had a Space Shuttle birthday party, so I'm truly an expert on product in this area. And with the no-hassle box, it's a breeze to open (smart one there, Amazon)Oh, and my son is not into guns or "fighting," so I simply removed the missles coming out of the alien ship. He has no idea they were even there to begin with, as the toy doesn't need those parts to work. All in all, I'd say BUY IT!!
Versatile and engaging January 6, 2009 Roosevelt (California) Got this for my 5 1/2 yr old, who likes building things, but won't stay at it for a long time (20 min tops)like other children do with legos and other construction toys. For my son this turned out to be the perfect toy to "build" without him getting impatient or resorting to dad/mom to finish the assembly for him.
He loves that he can create so many different versions and vehicles with it, and he also likes the space ship/alien that comes with it (makes "cool" noises).
Mom/dad like that he actually stays at it for as long as he needs to "complete the project"; that the toy is durable and of good quality; and it is not powered electronically and yet provides as much, or more fun, than other RC or electronic toys.
Great toy, great packaging January 6, 2009 R. Henry I purchased the Space Shuttle for my 6 yr old grandson, very easy for him to assemble. The best part for me was one cardboard box, quick & easy to open.
Watch out for "Frustration Free"! January 6, 2009 B K Green (Tucson AZ) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
[How can I rate it when it is still in the box?!]
I did not know what "Frustration Free" meant when I purchased this toy. The explanations were not there a couple of months ago when I bought this. 'Frustration Free" means all of the parts are just stuffed into a carton, all willy nilly. None of the original packaging is there! This might be all right for, say, a single electronic item, but toys, especially with many parts, deserve their own home! (And look on eBay: When purchasing a used toy, the condition of the box is as important as the item itself.) I called customer service and she said to buy the other version; that Amazon would refund my original purchase. Hah! They have raised the prices! Yes, the "no FF" is more expensive, but the version I bought is also higher. Am I disappointed? You bet. We are taking our granddaughter to the Tucson planetarium to a children's show about exploring in space. A lot of emotional satisfaction centered on this gift.
Gramma Jan January 6, 2009 Janis Johnson (Sun City, AZ) Gave it to the 4 year old for Christmas and his 3 and 13 year old brothers "helped" him play with it. Oh, Dad jumped in too.
