5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Toy- great value!   December 28, 2008

I purchased this toy [...] from Amazon for part of my 4 yr old son's Christmas, mainly because it was on sale and he likes Aliens. It's a great toy, well made, easy to use, and lots of fun, and would be worth paying the regular price.

This "deluxe" set includes the alien maker spaceship set [...], plus a martian landscape and extra bottles of goo.

To make an alien, you fill the hatch on top of the spaceship with "Meteor Mud" (playdoh), then snap in several of the mix-and-match alien pieces on the lid and press them in to make a mold. Then, you fill the impression with "Lunar Lava," top with a play-doh circle to seal, and let it dry for about 5 mins. The resulting alien easily peels out of the play-doh mold. You can put him in the space-ship, or the light- up martian landscape.

The spaceship is quite neat, and has more play value than most play-doh type sets I've seen. It has little hatches the aliens can sit in, storage in the middle, and holds important items like tweezers, plastic knife, and rolling pin- plus it looks cool and you can make it fly around.

One interesting factor is that the outside of the alien "sets" while the insides are sill runny, so you can dissect the alien and let his "gooey guts" run out, or roll him with the rolling pin to make him splat. We haven't tried that yet, but I can see it would be great fun for slightly older children. The little aliens will dry out after a few days if you don't keep them in an airtight container.

When I first put the set together, I thought it would be too difficult for my 4 yr old to do by himself, but he has figured it all out. My 8 yr old daughter thinks it's neat, too. The price is so good it may be worth picking up several just for refills.

All in all, a great toy.

5 out of 5 stars Creative, Cool and Fun   December 26, 2008

This is a fun and cool toy. More creative than play-doh. Even the space ship is well thought out. There is a receptacle for every piece and tool. There are a lot of combinations you can do to create different shapes of aliens. You create the molds by pressing the aliens into the Meteor Mud (seems like a regular play-doh). Then you pour the Lunar lava into the mold. It will take around 5 minutes for the lunar lava to solidify into a gel. Make sure to cover the mold with a rolled flat Meteor Mud or it will not set properly. No heat needed to set. You can also combined different colors to create colorful aliens. Since the mold is made up of play-doh like material, it is very easy to remove the aliens. The stuff are non-toxic. The only warning is if you have allergy from wheat as it contains some wheat. Each bottle of lunar lava is 2 oz. There are several bottles included and you can makes a lot of aliens with them. This is a pretty nice gift for kids 5 years and above.

Contains lots of materials to work with - will make a lot of martians and keep kids busy and happy for a long time - probably my son's(9 yrs) favorite present this Christmas! Little brother(5 yrs) was jealous and wanted it too! Great amount for the price!

5 out of 5 stars Six alien creations and counting   December 22, 2008

My six year old had his choice of Chanukah gifts to open on the first night and begged for the Alien Maker!! He has been creating little aliens all night. The mess factor, at least in the steady hands of a six year old, is minimal, the aliens are pretty fun, and they have their own little black light stage to live in.

There is enough goop to keep coby engaged for many nights, and if we actually run out and he is still interested -- then I will have no problems getting him more.

Amazon had a particularly good price on this for the 2008 holiday season, which made this an even nicer purchase. Gotta say, I am 100percent pleased.

I just bought several of these for gifts. One of the kids I bought it for may be allergic to wheat. Well, little did I know that when I actually received this item, on the back of the box it states that it contains wheat. Who'd have thought!!! I just wanted to let everyone know about this so no one purchases it without knowing about the wheat warning.
