5 out of 5 stars One of our favorites!!   March 24, 2008

My son has more toys than I'd like to admit, but this is one of our favorites. I'd say this is in our top three (and for the price, I'd probably say it's # 1).
My son is 5 and he can create his aliens by himself with absolutely no help from us (this is great for those times where you need to keep your child busy so you can clean, etc).
We showed him how to make the aliens the first time and he picked it up immediately.
We do make him use a towel (or some other protective surface so the gel doesn't get on our carpet). You'll also need a hard surface (we use a hard cover book) for cutting the martians open. When they're cut open, the gel oozes out. When it's dried up (a few minutes), it wipes right off of the back of the book.
If your little one decides to cut the martian open, you can add a little gel and "glue" them back together. (Just let it sit for a few minutes)

I can't find a single fault to this toy. The refills are easy to find and very inexpensive. The toy is small and very easy to store (everything fits on or in the spaceship).

I wish I could give this toy 10 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Much Better Then Expected   March 8, 2008

I bought this for my nephews 7th birthday. I thought electricity would be needed but nope, just mold and wait. It was a huge hit and we made probably 20 aliens the first day. I also bought some refills but we havent had to open them yet. You can make lots of aliens with the three bottles of Lunar Lava and three cannisters of Meteor Mud included. The space ship is adorable and holds all your supplies. There are three pods on the front of the spaceship to store your creations. You get a knife and tweezers to perform your very own alien autopsies! The instructions are clear and pictures are provided. You even get instructions on how to make your alien have gooey guts! This toy is a hoot and my only complaint is one of the pods top will not stay on.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent choice over Creepy Crawlers   March 6, 2008

Very impressed w/ this toy. Concept is similar to Creepy Crawlers w/out the hassel of electricity (heat, danger, and time to cook) or odor. Martian Matter is quick, easy, odor free, not messy, and end results/variety is excellent and brightly colored. Each Martian sets firm in just 5 minutes. The clay in which you make an impression mold is soft and fluffy-not hard to manage or crumbly. Three small cans of different colored clay are included-a note states if clay becomes dry you can add drops of water as necessary. You get about 10 half Martian mold pieces which are all "pairable"-any two will make a unique Martian. The amount of liqiud used is very small and you get three 3oz. bottles; enough to make probably 50 or more Martians. The storage unit is an adorable spaceship which cleverly houses everything neat and orderly! There's even 3 clear dome covered seat pods to hold your favorite 3 Martians! Sure to be a huge hit for the 5-10 yr old group!

5 out of 5 stars Better than we expected   February 22, 2008

My son bought this with his allowance money. He thought it looked like fun, but this is way better than what we imagined it would be. He was able to start working with it without even needing the directions, and I liked it because it didn't require any baking or heat lamp to make the aliens. That's a lot better than the bug factories and things like that we've had before. On top of that, the case is a cool spaceship that doubles as a toy for the aliens you make. Here's what my son had to say about it:

I liked the different kinds of aliens that you could make. It was cool. I made some really funky ones. There's really cool goo stuff to make the aliens. It was awesome. I really liked it.
