1 out of 5 stars why not use your own rechargable batteries?   April 5, 2007

I thought about getting this item thinking the charging time would be faster. After reading reviews and seeing the charge time is 2-3 hrs I thought this is no faster than the battery charger we use for all our rechargable batteries. After spending a bunch of money on batteries , we decided last year to just buy rechargables and a charger. We paid about $17.00 for a charger and 4 AA batteries and it works perfect. I have noticed that I have to work with the back cover a bit when reinstalling the batteries( about 30 seconds!!) since I am using rechargables(did not realize this was why until after reading reviews of this product). The little bit of time invested in that part is so worth it.Weve not had to by batteries yet and we purchased this (the pocket) for Christmas.
I also went through a return with V-tech on my son's console unit and boy was that exhausting, like a full time job. I too had to pay for postage $10 to send back and it took 6 weeks to get my replacement. I hope I never have to return anything again. I think this sounds like a waste of money and not very user friendly. My suggestion is head down to your local Walmart and pick up rechargable battery charger and some rechargable batteries! Bonus: They also work for all your other toys!!

1 out of 5 stars Great idea, Terrible product, even worse customer service.   March 10, 2007
V. Caretto (Shaker Heights, OH)
Like many others, I bought this thinking I would save on batteries, but my son's v-smile pocket will not sit on the recharger correctly, it tips backwards and loses contact. The only way I can get it to work is to hold it for 2-3 hours - yeah right!!!, or stack several heavy objects on the edge of it and hope it works.
I have been battling with V-Tech for 3 months, and have been promised a replacement twice, and finally got a letter instructing me to mail the product back to them and they would send me a replacement. No offer to reimburse for postage! No apology for the hassles! No apology for the inconvenience! And, they informed me that if my warranty had expired in the meantime, I would have to pay for the replacement! Can you believe it??? Save your money and aggravation - invest in the other similar game systems out there (ie Leapster), my friends did, and have been nothing but happy!

1 out of 5 stars What is it about vSmile power products?   February 3, 2007
Stephen Harman (Hoboken, NJ)
This no longer works (battery or dock who knows)
The in car power adapter was dead on arrival and
we are on our second powerpack for the original full size vSmile.

The vSmile itself and the pocket vSmile is a great product, but I so often need to run them on batteries because the power supply has packed up. Sort out the QA on the power parts please.

4 out of 5 stars a must have for v smile   January 9, 2007

The only problem I found w/ the power pack is that it's hard to find the right spot for it to start charging. You have to get it on there just so. But it's far better than going through 100 batteries!

1 out of 5 stars Great in Theory, In Practice it doesn't work...   August 9, 2006

When a company locks you into a proprietary charger, you'd at least expect it to work well... Well, this one does NOT. Like many of you, we got a lemon. Charger light acts like it is charging, but it isn't. As such, it's only real value is that of a paper weight... have email into VTech... we'll see what happens. In the interim, I'd suggest just getting the 9V converter and power the thing with a plug when possible. Many of you already know you can buy an inexpensive inverter for your vehicle and simply power this (and other electronics) from the 12V in your car. And let's hope VTech fixes the design flaw going forward because this thing is Great in Theory, but as many of you and I know first hand, in practice this thing JUST DOESN'T WORK... wish it wasn't so...
