5 out of 5 stars Wooden tool box   January 14, 2008

Durable and realistic with lots of tools and places on the tool box to use them. Self contained, colorful and great for hand eye coordination.

4 out of 5 stars my son loves this   December 1, 2007

My 2 yr old son has had this set for about six months, and while he can't quite get the hang of the screws, he really has fun playing with the hammer and nails.

5 out of 5 stars A year of fun play in many ways!   November 26, 2007

Yes there are hard wooden parts and they could be dangerous if you let your child run with the screw driver, or any toy I'd guess for that matter... However, I specifically look for Melissa and Doug toys now. I have two toddlers, one year apart. They love each of this particular brand of toys. They are durable, educational and have assisted in fine and gross motor development of my youngest, who is a little behind. The therapists always mention that they want the toys when I get rid of them. However, I haven't been able to get rid of any yet. They play with them all the time. I have the "black & decker" plastic tool kit too, which has small nuts and bolts that I removed immediately as the nuts on that kit are definately a choaking hazard. I bought both last holiday. Both of my toddlers, for some reason, always reach for this one first over the other... I wouldn't have guessed that. I don't know why that is... The other kit has so many real looking parts.

These parts are more durable. The nails when hammered are difficult to remove, but I showed my child how to use the rear of the hammer to jolt or pry the nail out, as one would use a regular hammer... It hasn't posed a problem since.

I have so many great things to say about Melissa & Doug toys. I specifically look for them first and I have a difficult time buying anything else, of like or kind, if given the opportunity. Even if the savings is substantial.

3 out of 5 stars Great idea...bad design   November 12, 2007

This toolbox is adorable! And, if my son had not gotten a wooden toolbench from another family member, I fear that this set would never have seen the light of day. However, since the screws and nails fit his wooden bench, this set sees alot of use. He uses the toolbox only to carry the tools in, but he does not actually use the holes on the box itself. It is too awkward and takes too much time to use it the way it was meant. it is VERY sturdy and a cute idea, but the design is simply not child friendly.

4 out of 5 stars Great introduction to tools & hardware   October 17, 2007

My two-year-old daughter loves this tool kit! She loves helping my husband and me when we fix things around the house, so we thought we'd give her her own set. My only complaint is that the bolts are a little too long and can be frustrating for a little one (or not-so-little-one) to thread the nuts on. I'm sure she'll grow into it nicely.
