A few points I learned in preparation for promotion presentations July 16, 2009 Stuart Gustafson (Boise, ID) I have done a lot of presentations, both in corporate life as well as an author and a college instructor. So, naturally, I thought I knew everything I needed to know about making those presentations. After all, no one ever told me to sit down, or no one booed me. But that doesn't mean that I was always as effective as I could be!
In preparation for promoting my newest book [...], I decided that I would actually read what the experts have to say about developing the presentations and then actually giving them. "TJ Walker's Secret to Foolproof Presentations" gave me a lot of things to think about how I used to do presentations. Notice the past tense -- "how I used to ..."
For starters, the book told me that the magic number of point to cover in a presentation is exactly five. It doesn't say, "try to cut it down to five," or "as close to five as you can get." NO -- do not include more than five! I wanted to know why, so I devoured the rest of that section. You should, too.
I consider myself a good speaker, so I read the following with some initial doubt: "So much of delivering a foolproof presentation has nothing to do with the mechanics of speaking or the quality of your voice. Instead, it has to do with fundamental judgment." Whoa! That's a big change for me, but as I read on, it all made sense. It doesn't mean that I won't make sure that my voice is clear and that the audio system works flawlessly -- it's just that I now have a new focus on what is important to the audience. And the promotion of a new book will equire that focus.
There are so many more great insights I got out of "TJ Walker's Secret to Foolproof Presentations" that I could probably wite my own book about this awesome book, but I won't. But I do want to add just one more thing. I've done the following before, but this is always a good reminder -- "Pick one specific person in the audience and maintain eye contact with that person for one full thought." Then move to another person for the next full thought. You won't have eye contact with everyone, but you will have eye contact with some, and that's a lot better than with none.
I highly recommend "TJ Walker's Secret to Foolproof Presentations" -- my own presentations at www.missabrevis.com will certainly be incorporating many of TJ Walker and Jess Todtfeld's proven methods. You should consider using them also.

Great for tips to put into practice immediately July 10, 2009 vgurka (New York) I read this book before I had to make a big presentation to a group of business owners. Thank goodness, because I probably used at least 10 tips from this book and put them to use right away. It helped me in structuring the content of my presentation and somehow I wasn't as nervous as I thought I would be. Now I just have to refine my skills for the next big speaking engagement. The book was a great read and it was often humorous. I selected this book because it made presentations seem fun and not boring, which is how it should be.

TJ Walker's Secret to Foolproof Presentations July 1, 2009 Nancy J. Friedman (New York, NY) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this book incredibly helpful in planning a presentation for business recently. I got helpful hints, creative ideas, and most importantly, confidence in my presentation skills. I recommend this as a "must-have" if you need to make presentations as part of your business.
Something New June 30, 2009 Jack Larson (L.A. CA. USA) I have been out in the world for many years. One thing I pride myself on is keeping fresh. Having read many books, taken coarses and attending seminars,I hadn't heard much that was new in recent years. T.J. Walkers "Secret...." Stressed 2 points that struck me as new or that had not been stressed enough to stand out in other books or programs.They are;
1 - always and only for the audience.
2 - Practice, Practice, Practice with a camera.
You should get the book if you want the details.
