A Must Read November 8, 2009 John Henson (Dallas, Texas) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Should be required reading just to be a citizen of The USA, no matter where you are born.

Liberty and Tyranny is a great book it makes a great gift. Reading the book has helped me in my disscussions with young people that do not understand how unique America is and what it means to be American. Both Liberal and conservative readers will get alot out of this book. Most importantly is how small the differences are between the two (except for the kooks on the fringe). After reading this book,I think it fair to say if John Kennedy were in politics today he would be considered conservitave or certianly far right of center.

The book was PURE COMMON SENSE. Very important read. I've even bought a copy for my fence-sitting parents. Mr. Wilkow would agree that Mr. Levin's arguments cannot be broken either. Reviewers giving 1 or 2 stars obviously have NOT read the book (some even admit to this), or are "hope-washed" and "change-washed". The Great One's book is sure to be the Statist Stain Remover. Virginia and NJ are harbingers of what's to come, and I feel L&T was a great influence. In NY23, a gentleman running purely on Conservative principle came within INCHES of upsetting the Democrat Statist endorsed by Obama and the Republican candidate (and by several degrees of seperation, NEWT GENGRICH as well??!!). The same story is playing out across the country. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL '10!
Beginning with the Wilson presidency nearly a full century ago, America has been moving further and further from the fundamental, core beliefs of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Now everyday that Congress and the Senate meets, our so-called representatives scheme and plot how to legally steal more and more of our Creator-given rights from us. Reread the Declaration. Reread the Constitution. LEARN what our Forefathers initially intended what powers the 3 branches were supposed to have, and how over the last 100 years or so the have voted to give themselves the authority to overstep those limits. Once you have read and understood our founding documents, read Mark's book to find out how we can get back to our core principles.

What it Means to be a Conservative: Plain and Simple November 4, 2009 C. T. Hunter (Gainesville, FL United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Here we have the brilliant Mark Levin's view of what it means to be a Conservative. This is one of the only books I know of that lays out in such a complete and exact way the belief system of the pure Conservative. Concise and nicely laid out, this book serves as an excellent source book for those with differing political opinions and an excellent reminder to conservatives what they stand for and why they do. Clear and easy to read, this relatively short book is packed with well-reasoned arguments supporting the Conservative agenda, and will prove invaluable for those wishing to learn more about this country's past and present politics and for those hoping to solidify their own beliefs about how this country should operate. In very plain English, Levin explains in simple and reasonable terms why he (and millions of others) believe that America would be better off by sticking to the founding principles. Highly recommended for any reader.
Not getting bogged down on any one specific issue, LIBERTY AND TYRANNY quickly and efficiently marches through the long list of problems we face, how we got here, and what we can do. With impeccable reasoning, Levin explains exactly why Conservatives believe the way we do on each of the most important issues facing our country today. Personally, my favorite parts were Chapter 5:On Federalism (p.49), Chapter 6:On The Free Market (p. 61), and Chapter 7:On the Welfare State (p. 95). His explanations on these topics are some of the best I've ever seen and really hammer in the points of why individual freedom serves our country the best, and why the statist agenda is so dangerous to our future. Plenty of other topics are delved into here covering what Levin believes to be the most important topics in current day political discussions.
The statist will be hard pressed to argue against the nearly flawless logic and reason employed in the arguments contained in this book, which will empower Conservatives to debate with greater confidence and encourage them to become more active with their political agendas. While most of the people that read this book will undoubtedly already harbor conservative tendencies, I hope that this book reaches many who have so far ignored politics or have not yet developed strong political beliefs. Books like this one hold the power to influence the future of our country. Can't recommend it enough.
