Perfect for my needs but keep an eye out for the new version Feb 2010! January 28, 2010 A. Boston (Boston, MA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In college I learned Adobe Photoshop, but I found it frustrating and hard to use even though I'm usually pretty computer savvy. Now at 29, I wanted something with similar capabilities that was easier to learn and use(and a budget friendly price!), and this fits the bill exactly, since I got it on an Amazon Gold Box Deal.
Be forewarned though, a new version was released in Feb 2010! The x3 version, which also looks like some top notch software, but was a bit out of my budget.
For me Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo x2 Ultimate has a very logical, common sense approach. I easily figured out the basics without looking at the manual. For years I've really enjoyed doing photo restoration from my family's extensive collection(going back to the early 1900's). Then I recently got a Nikon D5000 SLR, and wanted a better program to manipulate my photos. I was able to do all these things and more with Paint Shop Pro. Great "smart fix photo" step, to see how the program chooses to change your photo. Then you can adjust from there to your liking. Otherwise, do everything by hand to fit your wishes. Great hue/saturation, brightness and contrast, flash fill, and noise reduction.
I also took out some Corel Paint Shop books at the library. Both were great in giving step by step instructions for common photo problems(low light, distracting objects, etc). One of those books recommended using this program with the a Wacom Pen Tablet. A-mazing. With this pairing, I feel I can do wondrous things to my images. I chose the pen and touch model, and it turned this program into pure heaven. I have great control over scratch retouching, etc. I don't know why I waited this long to get this, but I'm so glad I did. Awesome program for the photography buff on a budget.
Great deal!! January 27, 2010 Sheri Bartay (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Much easier to use and much cheaper than Adobe PhotoShop. Can find almost all the same features as PhotoShop and have the money left over for more stuff!!
Enjoy!!!!
I love this better than photo shop January 26, 2010 Mary Barber (Michigan) I love my Paint Shop Pro, I have been using it since Dec.25,2009. I have a great laptop but the photoshop really crawled along. This program is easy to use, has great features: thinify, suntan, skin smoothing, frames and auto adjust. I am so glad I read reviews on Amazon before buying, it was a great investment!

I just bought this and downloaded the program. It is advertised with several other plug-ins, etc.
One of them is Photo Painter Essentials, and the is Media One Plus
They DO NOT WORK on Windows 7. To be fair - if you dig hard enough on the Corel website - it does tell you that they are NOT supported.
Wait until they upgrade to a real windows 7 version - before buying this - or at least justify your purchase based on the core product - it does seem to work
Works on Win 7 January 15, 2010 Robert M. Collins 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with many of the reviews on this page, Corel Paint Shop Pro is outstanding in every respect. Having used the old Micrografx (In late 2001, Corel Corp acquired Micrografx, Inc.) image editor it made very me happy to see all those original features preserved and made much better. Adobe Photoshop was/is difficult to say the least.
Paint Shop Pro loaded and ran/runs with no apparent problems in this Gateway AMD 4-Core, 6GBs RAM, Win 7 system.
