Don't waste your time or money on this one February 24, 2010 Sunny 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
While Ea promised that this game would be a huge step up, that the gamer would be able to create new and exciting faces, they were being disingenuous. The faces all look like rubber. They should've stuck with the original sims that had realistic faces, like real people.
The "town" that they created, is rabbit hole town. You cannot go into any of the buildings with your sim, nor create any of your own "town" buildings.
They gave less clothing, less furnishings, etc., so that you would have to go to the ea store and buy with real money ( I will not stoop to that level) more items for your game, that should've been incorporated into the game in the first place, as in the original sims. That was EA's best effort by far. (Maxis)But PROFIT obviously is far more important to EA than satisfied customers.
Sims 2 was slow loading just to get into the game. Sims 3 is far worse in loading and slows even more while trying to build and make sims.
This game is not worth the money by any means, and is inferior to the original sims and Sims 2. Ea has mislead its customers and it's a pity that they chose this unrighteous path. Those type of choices never pay in the end.

I really enjoy playing this game. What I found most interesting is that my "Virtual" son acts like my actual son lol. Its so weird. but I love it lol.
Still plagued with the same boring micromanaging as the others February 16, 2010 Katie (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wrote a review for the Sims 2. I can largely copy and paste it because the progression from Sims 2 to Sim 3 is the same as The Sims 1 to Sims 2.
This new version has much better graphics, more realistic movement, and better social options. The Sims 3 has refined the idea of having goals and a purpose to the game a bit more. However, the problem persists in that there's little pay off. You are doing all the same sorts of boring things you've always done. The goals just makes you choose one boring thing over another.
See, the problem with this game is something they did wrong from the get-go in the Sims 1 and Sims 2 and still haven't fixed: Making people eat food and go to the bathroom is boring. Think about life -- real life, your life. What makes it interesting? What resonates? Not taking a shower. It really is our emotional connections and social interactions. But this game addresses it in such an unfulfilling way.
This game misses out on the driving force behind anything we do in real life. Cause, followed by effect. The behavior of the Sims doesn't match the way real people act. For example, you can have a Sim eat too much food and get fat. Once they are fat, they will walk a little slower than they did before. They won't get depressed or need new clothes. They just walk slower. So what? There is absolutely no reason to make your Sim eat too much food in the first place. There should be a benefit of it for the Sim that would make him want to overeat. Maybe it could increase their mood or maybe it could increase their comfort level or maybe their mood or comfort would suffer if they didn't overeat.
This game acts like the only thing that affects our behavior are plainly and simply our physical needs. The game completely misses the psychology and emotions of humans that make us more interesting than animals. We might as well be controlling a pack of bears and having them pick berries and mate and eat and poo. Because that's this game is: mundane micromanaging.
The first time around playing, exploring all the different social options and possibilities is interesting, and it can be fun to take the mechanical boring action on the screen and create your own storyline to it. But the truth is, it does get old quickly. And the expansion packs give you some other stuff to do, but they get old just as quickly, if not quicker.
The Cons could never outweigh the Pros February 15, 2010 S. Edenburn 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying I adore the sims. It's one of my favorite time-eaters, literally. This game could eat an entire day of my life without me so much as blinking. Well, rather the Sims 2 game could. But the 3rd has left me itching for an improved 3.5 or 4th within a week of having it. Gameplay seems so limited, much less freedom than that of sims 2. For organizations sake, I'll go straight to reviewing in the pros and cons category.
Pros:
1. The Create-a-sim has never been so advanced. It seems you can literally clone yourself into the game, being able to change every facial feature imaginable. If you give it the time, you could find yourself terrified that you were able to create a Sim that looks exactly like yourself. Also, the features are a lot less cartoonish than that of sims 2, the big noses aren't always so bulbous, this game allows more than the 'basic' face to be considered attractive to the real-human eye.
2. Fashion is also widely expanded here. I have spent a good share of hours making custom outfits within the game. It did cut down on the need to download meshes, you can easily make outfits and furniture look exactly how you want. Though I do consider this a pro, it is a con as well, which we will discuss later
3. The socialization of sims is a lot more personal, and a lot easier to give them real personalities.
Cons:
First off, look at how fast we got here to the cons section. That is a huge warning to any Sims fan.
1. Controlling sims is difficult! The High-Free will is HIGH frustration when you tell the sims to go clean a toilet, but he/she refuses to stop reading or talking to their friends.
2. A lot less stuff. I expected them to include A LOT of the stuff from previous expansion packs, but all I noticed was their were cars. Thats all? No pets? No vacations? No 'Nightlife?' or real opportunity to run a business?
3. ZERO CONTROL in public lots. You can't even follow your sim INSIDE a building most of the times. What in gods name? How did they view that as an improvement at all?
4. Relationships are VERY difficult to maintain. Families never seemed so distant, i swear.
I would not recommend buying this game, it's not worth the price. Go get the sims 2 complete edition for roughly a little more, and you will be SO much more satisfied. If they slapped the create-a-sim from 3 and combined the trait options from both games onto the sims 2, you would find yourself in Sims HEAVEN. But this 3rd is like Sims with great graphics, but roughly the same options as the first that was so popular back when.
It is NOT an update, it's a huge step back.
Don't Think Of It As An Updated "Sims 2" Game February 13, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Don't think of the sims 3 as an updated sims 2 game. Think of it as another game entirely. There are other features in this game that are good/bad that I have not listed and I have not played this game very much. There are so many aspects of this game, some from the sims 2, so there are more pros. It doesn't have the Sims 2 feeling, nor did I get sucked into it like I did when I first got the sims 2.
Pros:
The graphics on buildings, plants, etc are better than before, but the sims themselves look a bit strange.
There are no more loading screens
There are cars and bikes
Your sim can have triplets without a cheat and can can now go to the hospital
Cons:
There are no scenes like in the sims 2 (birthdays, weddings, etc...)
You can only have one family per town. This means you either have to have your sim marry an already existing sim, or you have to have their spouse/spouse-to-be already live with them.
No Aliens, The sims tradition ended with this game. :( No Aliens, Alien Abductions, Nothing
It seems like you spend more time trying to make your sim happy than doing other things
You Cannot Create Your Own Town - However You Can Download another town off of the Sims 3 website (which I have not done)
