Majestic Chess March 30, 2009 Loveguitar (Georgia, USA) After reading many reviews about various computer chess games I finally selected this one and am pleased that I did. I was looking for a game that could teach my 7 year old how to play chess, and in an interesting way. The adventures clearly did that.
At first I didn't understand how the adventures worked. I thought this program would be a little more straight forward and therefore I completely missed how to do the adventures. My 7 year old had to show me how.....!
But since then it has been an interesting journey going from lower to higher and higher levels. We both needed something that was NOT intended for advanced players since we both are mere beginners. This game is easy to use, no problems with crashing the PC or even slowing it down, and the colors and graphics are great!
The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it could be a little bit more user friendly with some concrete directions instead of just seeing what the adventures are and where they go. But once I got the hang of them, again, thanks to my brilliant and non-genetically related 7 year old daughter, I was also on my way to learning how to play this game.
Great for 6yr old- and parents, too December 31, 2008 Gwendolyn M. Christensen (Albany, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My six-year old loves this game, and we do, too. He and my husband have played the adventure mode and games against the AI players. They like the fact that you can choose opponents of different skill levels. I had never been interested in chess (my brothers and dad play), but I started playing the adventure mode with them, and now I can actually play a game without embarassing myself too badly. And it's lots of fun to play against my son (even though he beat me).
The game does occasionally freeze up on our system, but so do many graphics intensive games. Save when you beat challenge!

I haven't played in years and years and this particular item didn't renew my interest. I guess I expected better graphics and clearer tutorials. Perhaps it's just me, but I've already uninstalled it.
Worth the buy October 12, 2008 Emale 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I played my first game of chess at the age of 14 while at a summer camp. Never really tried to sharpen my game. Now I am much more mature and must say this game and the idea of adventures along the way make it a very fun experience.
The technology used in the game is a bit dated and a bit stale. What I mean is that the game is conveyed on a CD not DVD and the graphics (while very good in its day) are now in late 2008 a bit dated and as I said a bit stale. This is in comparison to current on line gaming pizzazz graphics and emersion that I have enjoyed in other venues.
The idea of the adventure is great. If current technology and features were used, it could be show stopper great as a chess tutoring tool.
If they every decide to execute modern tech to do this, I would buy this game AGAIN at that time.
Love the game and the idea behind the gradual learning experience ... great concept but now is the time for a tech upgrade otherwise it would earn 5 stars.
Best Chess Game I've Played October 3, 2008 Jason Gordon (Aliso Viejo, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before owning this game I had a nominal interest in chess. After buying it I now want to play chess all the time. I know all the chess terminology, I can read chess notation and I win most people at chess who are average chess players, like my family and friends for example.
I couldn't put this game down for almost a week after I bought it. I'm 29, male, white and I like role playing games. This game definitely appealed to me and is one of the most fun games I've played in recent memory.
