Boring magazine with a careless editors. Only good for wall posters. June 25, 2009 Alan 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was an ex-subscriber from issue #2 - #13. Speaking from personal experience, I do not recommended this magazine to anyone.
There is hardly anything to read in a magazine. I used to just skim through because it was that boring and uninteresting. Editors are over self-praised, just look in the "Letters" section. How could such people be hired for a magazine this caliber? They sound like an typical amateurs which you met in web chat rooms. Their reviews are usually as follow - An over-hyped game always gets a highest rating and anything below is in 2-4 range. Instead of just pointing out what's good or what's bad they spread that poor article over 2 pages.
And almost forgot, when your subscription is far from being over they start sending you mail stating that this is your "last issue" and other BS. Just shows with what type people you're dealing with.
I still sometime skim an issue while I'm in a book store, and nothing is changed. Same boring, useless articles with same editors and their annoying attempts at trying to be funny.
Avoid.
Must Have Magazine for PS3 Owners June 15, 2009 J. L. Foster (Ohio) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have subscribed to Playstation the Official Magazine (PTOM) for nearly a year now. The writing is solid, the reviews are honest and for the most part unbiased, and there is a wide range of topics to interest almost every type of PS3 owner. Some examples:
Featured Games: Each month select games are profiled, which includes interviews with the developers, screen shots, ect.
Game Reviews: Games currently available are reviewed and given a rating. This is extremely helpful it you are undecided about a game or are wondering what to expect.
Letters: Each issues contains a section for reader letters. Each letter, often containing questions, are answered by the staff.
Contests: Each month there are several contests which can be entered for small prizes. I entered the contest from the first issue I received and won!
The overall tone of the magazine is one of fun and love of gaming. If you enjoy your PS3, are interested in upcoming games, or want more information on the latest equipment available, this magazine is a must have! It is at an affordable subscription price and the money I have saved from avoiding "bust" games means it has already paid for itself.
If you have a PS3 and a teenager... May 22, 2009 Michael G. Lustig (NJ USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have two PS3s and a teenager so buying this magazine was a no-brainer. I've been a subscriber since the old days (i.e. PS1). If you're a parent, you may notice that young people these days don't read too much. My son reads magazines recreationally. With PS3 games at $60 each, this is a good investment to see what might intrest you. BTW: I hate everything made by Ubisoft or Unreal. (Sorry for the mini rant.)
Good Sony Mag May 7, 2009 Shilom (MI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I still prefer Nintendo Power, but I picked this up during the half off deal when you bought a game over X-mas. Me and my son both read it, but both prefer NP and wish this was a little more fun like NP. All in all though it has good reviews and sneak previews of the games we love!
Lots of information for PS3, some for PSP, shallow coverage April 15, 2009 Gadgester (Mother Earth) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the "offical" magazine, so it doesn't say anything bad, critical or truly objective of the PS3 or PSP. PS2 coverage is getting less and less, which is no surprise. The reviews are often written from the first-person perspective which makes one wonder if the editors of this magazine have huge egos. I also hate the fact in every issue, they extol the virtues of the iPhone and in every issue they tell you to go buy one. Why are these people giving free advertising to Apple products?
I subscribe to it because it's the only PS3-centric magazine on the market, and it does contain quite a bit of info on the PS3 and, to a lesser extent, PSP. There's also more PSN coverage which is a good thing.
Still, I keep getting frustrated reading in every issue how everyone and their grandma should get an iPhone. Man, Steve Jobs should have been our president.
