This book has really enlightened my view of storytelling and brought things into a focus I could'nt grasp otherwise. As an award winning feature filmmaker I've done a ton of educational methods to be a better director/writer and I'm already feeling the gaps in my craft filling with some proper perspective. As my journey of knowlege/experience expands I will always count this work as a paramount aspect of guidence in deciding how the story should be told.
A gem amongst books on screeenwriting May 13, 2005 Z. Saeed (Hollywood, CA) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
Having been around movies for a very long time, and as a working
professional in the field, I cannot tell you what a joy it was to read this
book. Most screenwriting books are so serious and so...stuffy. It was as if
someone had flung the windows open and a wave of fresh air had come into
the room. Hands down the best of the screenwriting books I have read. And I have
read them all.
If you are an artsy fartsy, indie wannabe filmmaker who thinks the sun rises and sets with movies like "Memento", and have no intention ever of writing salable script, skip this book. But if you really want to know the craft of screenwriting from one of the best spec screenwriters at work in Hollywood, buy this book. I dare any aspiring screenwriter to write a script that satisfies all of Snyder's ideas as framed in this book. You will have a sure-fire winner on your hands.
Snyder has done us all a great service by sharing some of his valuable techniques with us.
