Very Good Resource April 13, 2009 Anthony M. Davis The screenwriter's bible is a very good resource. I wish it had more examples of scripts, but overall...very good. I'm sure I will read it a lot more in the years to come.
The book told me what I needed to know April 12, 2009 Nita Hickok (Dolan Springs AZ) I needed to understand how to format and structure a screenplay. The Screenwriters bible showed me how to do this. It has worksheets, tells you the margins, helps you with the story structure and covers everything you need to know. The website of the author is also very helpful. This is a great buy for anyone serious about writing a screenplay.
A MUST! April 9, 2009 Jacob F. Keller 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a MUST HAVE for any aspiring screenwriter. The several chapters cover all the finer points from writing to selling to meetings to contracts. You can use each chapter separately depending on where you are in your career or read the whole book from cover to cover to get a complete idea of the entire process. The author's voice is clear, concise, and repetitive from chapter to chapter with lots of examples, charts, and helpful worksheets and appendices. If you've read other screenwriting books before, "The Screenwriter's Bible" adds to and expands much of the stuff you already know - but all in one handy location.
Well worth the investment - good info here! February 25, 2009 PieRat Screenwriting (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a screenwriter and script consultant, I've purchased and read a number of books about the craft and business of screenwriting. The information in this book is excellent and not only covers formatting but also includes a great many techniques to help a writer elevate their craft. It's also important to know that there are those people in the business who swear by the formatting information in this book to the point that they will fault you should yours vary. Given that, it's a good idea to take heed of the instructions in this book which cover a number of not so obvious formatting issues.
Given the reasonable price, this is a book that every screenwriter should have within reach.
Super helpful February 17, 2009 C. Cunningham (Harrison Township, Michigan United States)
If you're trying to break into movies or TV, you'll find this an invaluable resource. Specifically, no other book I've found goes into the kind of details of how to write or sell your spec. As a new aspiring writer, I find myself going back constantly to it. How do I write montages? What are my options for writing telephone conversations? How should I write descriptions? And there's also a good section on how to sell your stuff once you've written it. Overall, highly recommended.
