Good book. June 17, 2009 John Swain 79 out of 132 found this review helpful
I like that Glenn Beck decided to write this book and in the process, pushed it to paperback and kept the price low. The message in the book is clear. Americans need to take back their country and return it to a country that prizes life, liberty, and property and not "what's yours is mine". Another important message of the book is that government is not the answer. The answer is very simple. FAMILY.
#1 Book On Amazon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! June 16, 2009 The Real SC McCoy (South Carolina) 55 out of 91 found this review helpful
Deal with it, haters. #1 on Amazon Books. Oh, and one more thing to all you Glenn Beck haters: YOU are what's wrong with America. That's right. You wouldn't know common sense if it sat in your lap and called you Mama.
Great book. Pick it up and learn something. Most importantly, learn to THINK FOR YOURSELF. If you can do that, then there may be hope for you yet.
Every American should read this book. June 16, 2009 Karen Miller 81 out of 135 found this review helpful
We need to read and understand what this out of control government is doing...it isn't about Republican or Democrat anymore!
Think for yourself for once! June 16, 2009 M. Racey (Seattle, WA) 17 out of 191 found this review helpful
Whether it is riding the coattails and verbally plagerizing other hosts, or having to "update" as something as precious to American history as Thomas Paine's "Common Sense", I wish the author would quit appealing to his audience's lesser instincts and begin to be a responsible voice for ideals he claims not to be a part of (or above the fray from all the others). I am tired of irresponsible people taking the mantle of their own brand of conservatism, telling listeners there is NO difference between the two politcal parties when we are undergoing the political fight of our lives, all the while stealing ideas from others and claiming them as their own. Whether it is some of his fellow talk show hosts, or now Thomas Paine, Glenn Beck should try and be Glenn Beck...no one else.
Wake up America! WE ARE NOT SHEEP! June 16, 2009 Sandy Winnich (Arlington, TEXAS) 155 out of 257 found this review helpful
Glenn Beck is a character (though I don't always enjoy his commentary). He could be just riding the wave of small government mentality out there for all I know, but this book is worth every cent and every second it takes to read. The premise is simple: the federal government has gone collectively INSANE and we taxpayers and constituents are passively sitting on the sidelines watching them take the ship into massive socialist icebergs. In other words, we've completely ignored common sense.
Beck says that we've gotten away from our founding principles, as he says in the book: "The fastest way to be branded a danger, a militia man, or just plain crazy is to quote the words of the Founding Fathers." That should be the first indication that we're not operating on common sense. Beck goes over other indications like the fact that all income tax from every American taxpayer over 10 years wouldn't even cover the debt--not to mention the interest on the debt. Also, Beck highlights absolutely illogical gerrymandering to produce Congressional districts that look a lot like a squirrel after it's been run over by an 18-wheeler (that's my clever analogy).
He kinda goes of course and criticizes environmentalism (which I support), but one of the major points he makes is that this mess is a BIPARTISAN mess. It's not just the Democrats; it's not just the Republicans- they're both in on it. The critics of this book that deride Beck's partisanship are way off base. I guess they haven't read the book! As one of his headers reads, "Political Parties: Dividing the People but taking us to the same place" (that place is evidently debt prison.
This is a must-read along with other recent books on the calamity that has befallen us like Surviving the Second Great Depression: How to Take Advantage of the Government That Is Trying to Take Advantage of You and Meltdown: A Free-Market Look at Why the Stock Market Collapsed, the Economy Tanked, and Government Bailouts Will Make Things Worse. Get them and wake up! WE ARE NOT SHEEP!
