Taken is One Great Movie! September 16, 2009 Dennis R. Maria (Yreka, CA.) Taken had some real spine tingling excitement that had my adrenaline flowing. I rate this movie among one of the top five of my favorites I have ever seen. Especially loved the scene of the telephone conversation just after the daughter was pulled from under the bed. The best Liam Neeson movie to date!
Great Movie September 13, 2009 Natalia Gomez (Cartagena, Colombia) Anyone who enjoys non-stop action is going to love Taken. I could go into more detail but I think that's all anyone needs to know in order to decide if they should watch it or not. As for the blu-ray itself, it's got very good PQ, I honestly can't complain. After watching it at the movie theatre and on blu-ray, I wouldn't want to watch it on dvd.
One detail though, this is not a movie for the faint-hearted.
Realistic Fighting Film September 12, 2009 Mark F. Bird (Dana Point, CA United States) There are many reviews on line regarding the plot, the premise, the acting etc. so I will not comment there. But with regard to the action sequences it was clear that an accomplished security or self defense expert provided much of the inspiration and direction (or the director studied these). I reviewed the fight sequences in slow motion and at speed and every move is something that would actually work. The style is not for Kung Fu enthusiasts, rather, it is based on the Applegate, Jim Grover, Fairbairn, styles of self defense that real bodyguards and experienced law enforcement use. There is even some grappling but practically applied (not MMA). The close quarters shooting is likewise realistic. I did not count rounds fired relative to each weapon but given that this is a work of fiction, unless you see fifty rounds come out of a semiautomatic without reloading, I can live with it. Other details that many may not care about such as the lead actor switching shooting hands in order to maximize cover are consistent and obviously were given thought. I suppose my point is that those with backgrounds in LE or other areas will appreciate the care taken in terms of realism.
I have kids and I think that maybe he was lenient. September 12, 2009 Beej Powers (Burke, VA United States) This is a glorious revenge fantasy that is a blast to watch and totally plausible to those with kids and any sort of military connection.
The bluray itself is fantastic. Lots of great sound effects and LFE usage. The 24p video is superb and really captures the film stock qualities. No DNR present.
Amazing September 9, 2009 Mary E. Morrison (mem) The action in Taken was amazing. It was riveting. Who cares if Liam Neesom is like a cat with nine lives.
