5 out of 5 stars just bad   November 18, 2009

Bad acting, hollow, stiff leading actors, amateur acting

Bad romance, just bad beyond words

Bad vampire myths

Bad story woven from better stores

Based on a bad body of work

Suggested works in both film and book for both adults and teens

Bram Stoker's Dracula of course, book and movies

I am Legend, Book only

Baltimore

All things Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Ann Rice's body of work, for the most part

Adults who claim to like twilight need to hit this list, honestly. no excuse

2 out of 5 stars Meh... this movie feels hollow   November 18, 2009

I got this only knowing that it had something to do with vampires. I'd never heard of the story before, so I had no preconceived notions about it.

Overall, it was "OK". I don't think it deserves the hype it's getting, but it was just entertaining enough to keep my attention through the movie even when I was rolling my eyes left and right.

The female lead is, frankly, annoying. She seems to always be confused or high or something. She's not very bright, either. Half the time she just stares at something and wont talk, the other half she's confused and babbling. The male lead is just... not believable. It's like a male underwear model hopped off a Hanes package and got the role. The plot is incredibly predictable. The typical "forbidden love" of a human and a vampire. Speaking of which, I don't feel like I really believe they are in love. I feel like I'm watching a highschool crush that's blown out of proportion. And why is this person who should have the maturity of a 100+ year old man, in love with this annoying 17 year old girl who has no personality? It just seems silly.

When I try to think of what about this movie was good, I can't really name anything. It was just mildly entertaining somehow.

This movie is just plain silly. Vampires hanging out in high school hitting on less than legal teenage girls? The vampires all tried to dress semi cool/edgy see also as(homosexually.) It's a trashy plotless, rehashed love novel with vampires of questionable sexual orientation. If you like this crap you need to probably get out of the house more often.

3 out of 5 stars Has Entertainment Value But Little Else   November 17, 2009

I went into watching this movie with common preconceptions such as Twilight being aimed towards teenage girls with little depth and entertainment value. While I agree that the former is a bit true, this film was quite entertaining overall.

I think that the strongest parts of this movie were Bella Swan (Kristin Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). While I do not think that Stewart and Pattinson are the best actors ever, they were quite competent in their roles in my view. Stewart played a naïve girl in love with a bad boy and Pattinson played the brooding vampire quite well. The story itself is a seemingly cut-out representation of teen love stories and vampire tales with some twists. An innocent girl is drawn to a dangerous-type boy and by overcoming misconceptions and the like, a love story ensues.

However, I think that the weakest aspect of this film is the dialogue. It is a bit too cheesy to say the least. Conversations such as Swan telling Cullen that she never wants to be apart from him made me roll my eyes more than once. It is if the dialogue were taken directly from a Harlequin romance novel. And since this movie is about vampires, one would think that more biting and blood would be shown. It is rated PG-13 after all. Lastly, the action scenes were a bit overdone. While the baseball scene with Cullen and his family was interesting, the constant slowmo shots of him and his family flying everywhere was a little distracting and unnecessary. It's fun to watch I suppose, especially with Muse's "Supermassive Black Hole" playing in the background.

Twilight was a good popcorn flick, but that's pretty much it. I for one tend to watch profound dramas that relate to life in some way without being melodramatic, and this film did not quite meet that ideal. It's a good film but is far from being a masterpiece. And who knows? Perhaps the producers realize this and just have fun exploiting that over-the-top aspect that makes up the majority of this film. If so, congratulations to them because they succeeded in providing entertainment to a huge number of the audience.

4 out of 5 stars Book Is better obviously, but the movie wasn't THAT bad!   November 14, 2009

Okay If you are a fan of the Twilight novel then you should LOVE this movie. Even though Kristen Stewart doesn't do the best acting job (when she is in the hospital bed stuttering to no return when Edward says shes better off without him or whatever lol)...Rob Pattinson did a great job at being Edward. The part where she went to sit by him in class...in the book it made it seem like he was being rude not in pain. Well I am somewhat addicted to the movie because of the storyline and I am absolutely in LOVE with Jacob and cannot wait for NEW MOON :) He doesn't appear as much in the movie as the book which was a little disappointing. OVERALL GOOD MOVIE! WATCH IT!!
