"Identity is not static, always in the making and never made" August 5, 2009 bel_78 (Buenos Aires, Argentina) "The story of India" is a BBC series that follows Michael Wood in his quest to understand that country. Wood is an excellent presenter who appreciates India's history and culture, and explains them to the viewer in a simple and engaging way.
According to Michael Wood, "Identity is not static, always in the making and never made". That is probably the reason why he highlights the importance of studying India's history in order to understand the country that India has become. That belief is reflected in the organization of this series, that has six episodes that tackle the story of India from its origins to nowadays. Their titles are: 1. Beginnings; 2. The power of ideas; 3. Spice Routes and Silk Roads; 4. Ages of Gold; 5. The Meeting of Two Oceans; 6. Freedom
All in all, I can say that "The story of India" is informative, but also entertaining and visually beautiful. From my point of view, watching it was both a learning experience and a treat to be enjoyed. Highly recommended...

Great tour of India, it just lacks on the Spiritual side of India, that is its' core. Scenerys are fantastic. Best scene on large screen TV.

Excellent introduction to India for those who are seeking incite into a country that many do not know much about.
Well done but... May 18, 2009 Wrangler 41 (Hi Desert, CA) Well done, but too short. Just as a segment got really interesting, credits and done. There is a wealth of information thst still needs to be presented. I learned a lot about India and her varied peoples, yet I yearn for more.
Another Michael Wood success May 13, 2009 Peter T. Wolf (lake forest, ca United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You know why Michael Wood's programs are so compelling? Because you can tell he is in awe of the grandeur of history. Or as he puts it; 'the layers of history'. His fascination spews out in his speech, his facial expressions, the way he blends background music, the way he photographs. It all captivates the viewer. Of course it helps that he has a British accent which, to our ears, we equate with scholarship. Because somehow when a breathless Englishman says; 'The fall of the Roman Empire !!' or 'Palace intrigues and the murder of...' someone or other, it just somehow sounds more important. I have seen all his programs and this Story of India is certainly one of THE best.
