A guy at work told me you have got to see this new HBO seris,"True Blood."I just got layed off this week from work,and have been watching the show on demand,and I am Freaking HOOKED.Its not for kids,and there's alot of sex and nudity,but I need my TRUE BLOOD. All of the actors are new to me,but everyone is superb.I'm so glad its been renewed for a new season.If you are bored over the winter,True Blood will warm you up.
(The last show was FANTASTIC,the killer was a shock,and Jason is so funny at the end.Bill proved his love for Sookie,but is in for a big suprise when he is waiting for Sookie to come over.The new shows start next summer.I can't wait.}

This Series Rocks October 24, 2008 Mystery Lover 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was instantly hooked from episode one. Anna Paquin as Sookie is sensational, Stephen Moyer as Vampire bill is totally hot. Their scenes together sizzle with chemistry. The whole cast is great. I've watched most of the other TV vampire shows and this one beats them all with intrigue, dark humor and sexy romance. Being on HBO gives the show license to be as edgy and steamy as anything I've seen. I haven't read the Charlaine Harris books the series is based on but I know Alan Ball is giving the show his lush and quirky perspective. I'm totally addicted and can't wait to see how each episode unfolds. Hopefully HBO will release the DVDs soon!
Humans Can Be More Threatening Than Vampires October 21, 2008 SORE EYES 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
THE ALIENATED WILL RELATE
Based on Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series (Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries, No. 1), True Blood is a goth-romance about a small town Louisiana waitress (played by the hot New Zealander Anna Paquin The Piano) with psychic powers who finds herself caught up in the culture of modern vampires. After the invention of a Japanese blood product (Tru Blood), the vampires "come out of the coffin" and survive without feasting on humans. Survival is one thing though and desire is another. The vampires find it hard to kick the human habit.
The creator of True Blood, Alan Ball, also wrote Six Feet Under (Six Feet Under - The Complete Series Gift Set), and the similarities are apparent. In the same way that Six Feet Under could have just been about a quirky family working in a funeral home or an intense family drama about people confronting their own mortality-depending on how you looked at it-True Blood is either a vampire thriller or a story about an alienated group of people trying to assimilate in a town where crosses are meant for worshipping, not killing.
True Blood is the great type of show I've come to expect from HBO. It's lighter than Six Feet Under (but I was ready for that after bawling my eyes out at the end of that series). After wading through the gory sex scenes and rivers of blood, women are going to find the element of romance and relationships in this series appealing and men are going to like the sex and violence. All around good.
If you are interested in more Vampire set in the south but have done Anne Rice, I would suggest novels by authors like Poppy Z. Brite Antediluvian Tales.
True Blood is Television at Its Bloody Best. October 20, 2008 G. Merritt (Boulder, CO) 131 out of 143 found this review helpful
"Thou Shall Not Crave Thy Neighbour."
True Blood ponders the question: Why do good girls fall for bad boys? Alan Ball is perhaps best known for his originality and aesthetics in writing the Academy-Award-winning screenplay for American Beauty, and for creating the HBO television show Six Feet Under. Based on Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series, Ball's new HBO series, True Blood (which recently premiered on HBO on September 7, 2008), is another good reason to own a television these days. Set in Bon Temps, Louisiana, the Southern Vampire television series tells the gothic love story of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress, who falls in love with the town vampire, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Sookie is a virgin, "cursed" with the ability to hear people's thoughts. Bill is a 173-year-old vampire who, despite his Southern charms, has only one thing on his mind when it comes to Sookie. Meanwhile, as religious leaders and government officials debate the safety issues surrounding the co-existence of vampires and humans, "Bad Things" (as the show's theme song suggests) are happening to the residents of Bon Temps. The show's soundtrack (by Gary Calamar) is equal parts "swampy, bluesy and spooky." Ryan Kwanten plays Sookie's brother, Jason Stackhouse, a sex addict who is also addicted to "V" (vampire blood) for its viagra-ecstasy-like effects. William Sanderson and Chris Bauer play the small town's rather inept investigating law enforcement officers. Much like Six Feet Under, True Blood reveals Alan Ball's genius for original storytelling. True Blood is not only television with fangs, it is television at its bloody best.
12/12/08 Update: True Blood received a Golden Globe nomination this week.
