Disappointed September 21, 2009 V. Liddell (Tooele, UT USA) 7 out of 14 found this review helpful
I was very disappointed with this series. I only watched half of it. The insert in the box said it was rated PG but I didn't know that full frontal nudity, and explicit love scenes, were included in that rating. I expected a film that would give my family a better understanding of history, not sex-education and anatomy. It was also more gory than I expected. None of that needed to be in there to portray the historical events. There should have been a warning in the purchase information. My children were appalled that I would buy something like this. It was very embarrassing that I did. I bought it because I love American history but "Hollywood" has to ruin everything. When will they learn that they don't have to include sex and gore to sell a film.
John Adams HBO Series September 21, 2009 Solana Cooper (CA) I believe this show won awards as well it should. Everyone should see this mini-series for the phenomonal acting of the actors and the historical account of a great man/men.
I loved the verbage, the eloquent manner of speech even while arguing was a treat to the ears.
HBO's Mini Series are the Best September 17, 2009 Jason Cole (Missoula, MT) Much like Band of Brothers before it, I love this HBO mini series. Good acting, camera work and story telling in general.
Superb Documentary September 13, 2009 Solomon Fried (Woodmere, NY United States) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
An accurate historical view of the revolutionary war period as told through the life of John Adams who was a key figure from the early days of the revolution, through the decades that followed.
It offers a great option to view interesting facts about scenes throughout the movie as short pop-up messages.
I loved it.
Spectacular! September 12, 2009 B. Johnson (WI) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you need a way to teach kids about colonial American history, you could do much worse than having them watch "John Adams." In fact, I was so impressed with the mini-series that I donated a copy to my local middle school, where it has been used in the curriculum.
There is nothing bad to say about this production. Excellent acting all around, totally invisible CGI work that brings early America to life, and a no-holds-barred attitude about the hardships of life in the 1700's.
