1 out of 5 stars If you want to understand mathematics, do not buy this dvd.   August 12, 2006

If your goal is to calculate, then this is a good dvd to get. However, if you want your kids to really understand mathematics, pass up this one. For example, when adding numbers such as 23 + 7, one would first put the 23 and 7 on top of each other and draw a horizontal line under the seven. Then, add the numbers in the ones column so the author states that 7 + 3 = 10 so he says to put the 0 under the line right under the 7 and the 1 needs to go above the 2 in the number 23. Why is this? Well, the author's explanation is that the 1 has to go somewhere so it might as well be above the 2. WHAT??? One would just need to get out some cuisinaire rods to understand the reason why we put the 1 above the 2 is because it is equal to one ten and every ten goes in the tens column. I didn't get beyond this in the dvd simply because as soon as I heard the author's comment, that was all the information I needed to realize the author either doesn't understand the "why" of mathematics or if he does, he chose not to communicate it to the audience. Unfortunately, this is an all too common problem with MANY teachers.

Highly recommended DVD series. Just put in the DVD player and in no time your kids will be doing better in math. Yes, it is really that good. Two thumbs up for this one!

5 out of 5 stars My kids doing better at math!   June 29, 2006

There is only one reason I purchased this DVD, and that was so that my kids could boost their grades in math. So that was the yardstick by which I measured this DVD - and it has exceeded my expectations in every way! My kids are actually liking math instead of dreading it. I don't get the fussing that I used to when it came around to homework time in the afternoon. But best of all my son's worksheets are coming back from school and he is doing much, much better than before. Thanks for a fantastic DVD!

I run parts of this DVD in my class and the students really like it. I use it to supplement my own lessons in elementary school math. Two thumbs up on this DVD!
