A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge January 23, 2008 William Evans (Elizabeth, Colorado, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been a fan of the Alastair Sim 1951 version of A Christmas Carol for many years. It is a family tradition to watch it on Christmas Eve to get in the 'spirit'. I decided to purchase the Patrick Stewart 1999 version just to see if the movie could have been improved upon. IT HAS!!
I like the concept of a younger Scrooge who really has a chance to improve his life and the lives of those around him through learning the meaning of Christmas simply because he will have more time to do something about it. Stewart's Scrooge is at least 10-15 years younger than the Sim character.
A very enjoyable update on a classic movie.
A Great Version! January 12, 2008 In my opinion, after the 1951 Alistair Sim version, this is next one of the best interpretations of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." Patrick Stewart plays a wonderful Ebeneezer Scrooge, and the supporting cast is equally good. A "must have" for the true "A Christmas Carol" connoisseur.
Christmas January 9, 2008 Bud Harris (Patton, Pa USA) In comparsion to the Alastair Sim & George C.Scott's versions of this Classic Christmas Movie this only has clever special effects with good not excellant acting .
Great casting! January 3, 2008 Amy L. Short (Ohio, USA) Patrick Stewart was the perfect Scrooge!
This version of the story was perfectly cast.
Not the best, but definitely worth having. January 2, 2008 Kenneth Flester Jr. (Lancaster County, VA) If you sat down and compared all the aspects of this movie to others, you'd find lots of things that were done better in other versions, such as Alistair Sim and George C. Scott. But if you just sit down and enjoy it, you will be rewarded. There are several things in here from the book that weren't done in other versions. And Stewart's acting is great, as always. It definitely holds it's own with the other versions. My one complaint, the ghost of Christmas yet to come looks like an oversize jawa.
