XBOX 360 July 4, 2009 iHyphy (Oakland, CA) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This unit by far offers the best combination of free games versus the other consoles..delivering 2 game of the year titles, halo 3 and fable 2 both which are awesome games! As far as it being the newest chip set...no its not the newest! The jasper units only official release has been in the Resident Evil 5 Elite Edition XBOX 360 (which im so glad i was able to pick one up for the same price).
The RRoD issue could still be a problem with these units but its not as likely as the early gen's of xbox 360's. Plus, if you do incur problems just contact microsoft/xbox and they send you free packaging so you can mail out your box for free so you can get it fixed for free...ive own the first gen white premium model, ive owned a black elite like the one im writin for now, and i currently own the resident evil 5 jasper elite and none of them gave me any problems at all! the jasper elite uses less energy, its a billion times quieter (i cant even hear it sometimes) and it has a cool red and black theme.
realize this people that xbox, playstation and wii have all had problems where people needed to return there units for something. just because xbox is more well known because of there RRoD doesn't mean that the other systems were flawless! anything you buy isn't 100% guaranteed to work, so use the free factory warranty or boost up and extend your warranty!
i think the elites are the best way to go versus the other choices. you get a 120 gb harddrive, hdmi cable and hdmi input, 2 game of the year titles which would cost you now about $39.99 for each game, wireless controller, head set and all the other tv cables.
if you can find a Resident Evil 5 Special Edition Jasper Elite then i suggest you buy that instead. Because as of right now those were and are the only jasper chipped xbox's. plus you get resident evil 5 for free with is which is a great game as well.
the reason i rated this a 4 star instead of a 5 star is because they were putting 08 and 07 models in 09 packaging and reselling them with 2 GotY titles. i think they should only just sell jaspers now, but xbox is trying to get rid of all there older models because they stopped the manufacturing of them.
and please if your considering getting any of the other system, don't even try to compare because xbox has its pros and cons and playstation has its pros and cons, but xbox has the best online live service out of all three systems (nothing compares to the xbox live you can ask a playstation or wii owner) and as far as gettin a wii for wireless i still say go with the xbox 360 because with the soon and future release of the Project Natal (which is controller less gaming) nothing will compare to xbox 360 then...to find out information about the natal go to [..] and view the video for it.
Not the newest version June 11, 2009 Gabriel J. Howard (okc) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
After contacting Amazon.com, they apologized, which doesn't fix the fact that this Xbox360 system is not the newest one with lower power usage and the updated chipset. Amazon.com offered a refund as they do not have any newer version available.
Typical 360 Experience - Including Failure June 10, 2009 SCF (Portland, OR United States) 13 out of 23 found this review helpful
My console and game collection was stolen in a home invasion, so I had to look at the current XBox 360 offering so I could replace my 360 Elite.
I was very disappointed with the offerings. It's an XBOX 360 and therefore it lets you play your games, but this far into the product cycle, I'd expect so much more. However, if you want a large drive and HDMI it's the only choice you really have.
Here are a list of the problems I encountered, most due to the product itself:
[--] It is advertised as "the newest" version of the product, yet it is using the older chipset that is prone to E74 errors.
[--] The HDMI cable that comes with it is garbage. I plugged the 360 into my Denon 3806 receiver using the HDMI cable and there was no signal. I then plugged the 360 directly into my 60" Sony SXRD via HDMI and there was no signal. I plugged my Digital Cable box directly into the TV using it and the picture was faded, blurry, snowy, fuzzy, dark, purple, unwatchable. I used another off-the-shelf HDMI cable and everything worked perfectly.
My PS3 didn't come with an HDMI cable at all, but what's the point of providing a component that doesn't even work?
[--] The two games come in a single combined case. My case was smashed and green plastic chunks were all over the place inside the product packaging.
[--] The headset that comes with the 360 continues to be disposable garbage.
[--] At the current price of this product, Microsoft should be providing a rechargeable controller battery by default rather than a pack of AAs.
[--] The XBOX 360 Elite packaging itself (the box Microsoft ships it in) had clearly been opened before I got it. The circular adhesive tape that closes one end of the product had been cut open and then a second piece of tape had been placed back over it. To Amazon's credit, when I asked them to confirm if I had a used 360 or a new one, they didn't even bother answering and just told me they had already shipped out a replacement that would arrive in 24 hours (and it did).
Hardly "Elite" May 25, 2009 Bob Dole (Everywhere) 24 out of 34 found this review helpful
I'm not simply giving the Elite console a low rating because of the fact that most of them include the Falcon chipset, but rather since it is overpriced for what you are getting. Considering that the Premium comes with a hefty 60GB hard drive and is $100 cheaper, a 120GB hard drive is really unnecessary. I'm sure some people may disagree and claim that their demos, music, videos, pictures, etc. consume up to one-hundred gigabytes of space, but the large hard drive is the only reason this package is overpriced. Once you purchase this, you must then purchase a $100 wireless network adapter, which most would agree is a necessity. Also, why did they not include a Play & Charge Kit? In addition, a black wireless headset is much more of a Live companion than the included wired one. Finally, although the black finish is nice, it absolutely does not match with any of the accessories, such as the Quick Charge Kit, the Media Remote, the Wireless Headset, Xbox Live Vision (not necessary), and the HD DVD drive (if you own it).
Here's what a true bundle worthy of the title "Elite" would include in addition: wireless headset, Play & Charge Kit, and Media Remote (all matching). This would indeed be worth the $400 retail price. Instead, save one-hundred dollars, go for the Premium bundle, and purchase a wireless headset, rechargeable battery, and media remote (with enough money left for a full-priced game).
Worthy of note is that I actually did spot an Elite that included the Jasper chipset, if one were to follow the hint that all those manufactured after August 2008 are Jaspers. I spotted one that was manufactured in late October.
Also, if you decide to go for the plunge and purchase this, be aware that the game is packaged in the bottom of the box, meaning that everything else is putting pressure on it. The Premium bundle that I purchased had a severely crushed game case. Just look out for that.
