Not for seniors May 11, 2009 S. Replogle (Cols. Ohio) We bought this game and my husband (62) can't figure it out. My son(37) and grandson (18) love it and get all the levels. I guess you need to be a little more computer savy to use these. Overall it's a fun game to watch and then you can learn how to play.
The LEGO Knight Returns April 16, 2009 Zack Davisson (Seattle, WA, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My wife and I (both 30+) are always on the look-out for fun co-op games we can play together on the Wii. After shooting up the opposite end of the spectrum with ultra-violence (House of the Dead: Overkill) we really dug the innocent, silly fun of "LEGO Batman."
This was my first go at a LEGO game. I haven't played either Lego Star Wars or Lego Indiana Jones, but I will definitely be checking them out. This game was just so much fun! Great graphics, great game play, great sense of humor. It was challenging enough that it took us awhile to get used to the controllers, and master the combat system (gotta work that batarang), but not so difficult that it was frustrating. We went to the Internet a few times when we were stuck, but for the most part we just whipped right through. Three hours can go by without even noticing, because you get so involved in the game.
The "LEGO Batman" isn't exactly classic Batman, although many of the same characters are involved. Robin is a scrappy little punk, and the Joker is a wacky prankster rather than a deadly killer. Clayface, The Penguin, The Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, The Riddler, Mr. Freeze and Two Face make up the rest of the villain contingent. The heroes are Batman and Robin, of course, but some others like Nightwing, Batgirl and Commissioner Gordon are available as unlockable characters.
Game play involves three main missions, against The Riddler, The Penguin and the Joker. Each main mission has about four sub-missions each captained by a different villain. After you play through them in "story mode," you unlock the "free play" mode. In "free play," you can head back to the same scenario but this time with extra powered-up suits and characters that weren't available in the first run. There are a lot of secret items to collect, and if you are a completest you will have a great time picking up all the hidden pieces.
The Wii remote use is pretty basic. You will need the nunchuk to maneuver the characters, and you mostly use the A and B buttons on the remote. There isn't a lot of remote swinging, which is fine considering how fun the game is. The co-op mode is lots of fun, much more fun than single play. In fact, there are a few scenes where you need co-op mode to advance. Robin needs to push a button while Batman goes through a door and things like that. If you don't have a buddy to play with (or a wife...) that could be a bummer.
Third installment in the lego series April 16, 2009 CJ (Seattle, WA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the third TT lego project, after star wars and indiana jones. If you have gotten to batman, you have probably played one or both of the two. You can expect a lot of the same. The game definitely appeals to the completists, those who are trying to find all of the pieces to the various kits, which, once you get through the game on the initial run, is pretty much what's left. So if you like hunting for those pieces, this game will entertain you for hours and hours - it's pretty long, much longer than indy at 30 episodes, and some are quite long. I do have to say that this game is a little easier than previous lego efforts on piece hunting (some of the red bricks are downright easy to find!) This time around, you get mostly the same two characters with suit changes/upgrades, which is a nice twist, but makes it a little crazy with free play flipping through your options.
The lack of direct movie tie-in is both disappointing and charming - if you are familiar enough with the batman legacy, you will recognize chunks from previous shows and movies rather than, say indiana jones which basically follows the movies. It lacks a real story, but seeing the various chunk smashed together in one video game is entertaining for me.
The controls are not that interesting. I find the wii batarang a little annoying to game play.
After playing all three lego video games, I would recommend the star wars first, this second, and indy third, mostly due to length.
