5 out of 5 stars DS Lite Rocks!   June 12, 2006

I bought my DS Lite today, and it is amazing. The screen comes defaulted at the third highest brightness (out of 4), and the highest level is extremely bright. I've played the DS in Best Buy, and it was too dark. The DS Lite is much improved over the DS. The stylus if full size, and the speakers sound great. New Super Mario Bros. plays great. I highly recommend picking one of these puppies up if you're in the market for a handheld.

5 out of 5 stars Brighter and Better!!!   June 11, 2006

The Nintendo DS was a great system, and was revolutionary using two screens, one of them being a touch screen. And the graphics were amazing for a handheld. Two years later, Nintendo releases the DS Lite, which is even better.

The best thing about the DS Lite is that it is brighter. So much brighter that you can see colors the way you never saw them before. I popped in New Super Mario Bros., and thought I was playing a different game. The colors are just crazy on this thing. A green that you thought was dark is now a bright green on the DS Lite. The thing is, there are 4 levels of brightness. The lowest is slightly brighter than the DS, and the brightest is about 10X brighter than the DS.

Some people might have noticed that it was neerly impossible to play the original DS outdoors or in bright light. Not with the DS Lite. You can play it absolutely anywhere and it'll look jsut fine. You also might have noticed that the original DS had a horrible viewing area. If you tilted the system ever so slightly, you'd lose viewing space, and it was awful. Not with the DS Lite. The DS Lite has the best viewing area of any handheld to date!

GBA games look better than ever on this system, even more so than on the GBA Micro, which looked great too. Nintendo also gives you a GBA filler cartridge that you can put in the GBA slot so that the sleek look can be maintained whenever. The downside is, when you put in a GBA game, it actually portrudes a little bit; about one cenimeter. This isn't really a problem, and the games don't portrude nearly as much as the GBC games did on the GBA or the GBA SP.

The power button is no longer a button. It is now a switch, so that when you play a game you won't hit the switch accidentally. You also get a new stylus, which slides into the side of the system. This stylus is longer and thicker, and its much easier to play games with. I could also swear that the touch screen is more sensitive, but that might just be the stylus, which has a better tip this time. The microphone has been moved to the center of the system, making it much easier to get to. The power lights are now repositioned so you can see them even when the system is shut, which is very helpful. The system, though thinner and lighter, is much more sturdy than the old one, thanks to the layers of hard plastic coating the DS Lite. The battery lasts really long too. At its lowest setting, it can last over 20 hours. At its highest it can last about as long as the original DS. Wi-Fi and multiplayer are still fully compatible on this system, for anyone who's wondering.

So in short, if you don't have one of these, get one. You won't regret it. It's a major step up from the old one. Though you won't need it to play new games, if you want to see your games at thier full potential (or see your games at all if you like playing outdoors) than get the Nintendo DS Lite.
