Awesome Remote - Great Price January 6, 2009 We love it! We already owned one model up from this remote and loved ours so we got it for my mother-in-law. Before this remote she was always having problems switching between watching cable, dvds and listening to the radio.
It was easy to setup and now she is able to use all her a/v stuff without problem. The help function is great and gets her through any hiccups.
This remote actually makes it so you can put all the other 5 remotes in the drawer because it gives you the full functionality for each piece of equipment.
We highly recommend it!!
VERY Universal January 6, 2009 I bought this product for my father Christmas 2008 and I must admit, I was just as excited to start playing with it as he was. Out of the box, the task of getting to know the remote was a tiny bit daunting (but certainly not impossible).
I would NOT recommend this remote to someone who is without the slightest technical ability. This remote is very powerful and to be able to unleash its power, you might have to be a bit tech savvy. USING the remote however is a piece of cake once you have it setup. My mother and little sister love it as well.
All in all, this remote is extremely universal and once you get past the initial setup (which really isn't that hard) its a dream. The button layout is simple and with the soft keys and the screen, you can do just about anything with it. Awesome!
Very Good Product January 6, 2009 I was looking for a universal remote that would be easy to use for guests and also be able to control all my AV components and perform most of the functions of the original remotes that came with the components. The Logitech Harmony 880 satisfied my requirements nicely.
The Harmony 880 is easy to use. When programmed correctly, one touch of the "Watch TV" button powers up my TV, tunes the video input to the correct input, powers up my Home Theater receiver, tunes to the correct AV selection on it, and selects Live TV on my TiVo. The remote contains a one touch button for "Watch DVD" with does the similar for watching a DVD. The remote can also be programmed to do other functions as well like "Watch VCR" etc.
The Harmony 880 also contains most functions of the original remotes. Like jump back 5 seconds on TiVo, Subtitle on my DVD, and others.
On the negative side, the size of the up/down channel and volume buttons are a bit small. The placement of these buttons also takes a while to get used to. This is the only reason I did not give this product 5 Stars.
I have been using this product for a little over a month. I have not experienced any battery or charging issues. Overall I am very pleased with the Logitech Harmony 880 Universal Remote.
easiest mothership to navigate January 6, 2009 previously had 5 remotes: 1 for cable, 1 for amp, 1 for tv, 1 for tuner/volume, and ps3 remote. after 20 minutes of setup time, i am now down to the ps3 remote and the mothership. it was easy to set up with the navigation asst., which oftentimes knew where the problem was if 1 piece of equipment wasn't responding to the remote....with the click of a button, all was remedied. buy this to simplify your life.
This remote is great, and easy to use!!! January 6, 2009 This is my first "Advanced" universal remote control purchase, so all I have to compare it to is the old universal remotes you buy at Radio Shack or BestBuy. Compared to those old remotes, it is very, very impressive!
The largest selling point is the ease of use. This unit was extremely easy to setup. I simply followed the very short instructions to open the Harmony application, I chose the models of my Harmon Kardon receiver, my DirecTV DVR and my Panasonic plasma TV. The hardest part of this whole process was getting the model numbers off of the back of these components! :)
After inputting the model numbers, it asked me a few simple yes/no questions, like "Do you want to leave your DVR on when you turn off your TV?", and "Do you want the Receiver on when you watch a DVD?", and "Is your DVD input on your receiver set to DVD?". After answering those simple questions, it said to connect the remote to the computer via the included USB cable, and after a few seconds, the remote was ready to use.
I honestly never read the manual or instructions past getting to the "Harmony" application (yes I'm a guy), and I figured it all out in a couple of minutes.
I am amazed at all the buttons included with the devices I added. On top of the normal buttons on the remote, the lcd screen had 3 pages (which you scroll thru using arrow keys) of additional buttons for my TV. It had 7 pages of buttons for my receiver, which was really awesome.
I have only found one thing I can't do on this remote, and it is turning off the multi-room feature of my receiver, which quite frankly, is difficult with the original remote. It may be possible with the Harmony, I just haven't spent any time with it, because it's too cold to be on the patio to listen to music anyways... :)
All in all, I highly recommend this remote, especially for the price range. I put my other 3 remotes in the drawer, and they are staying there!
