Pocket HD video, but jittery September 13, 2009

Now that it's priced under $200, the Flip MinoHD is a good buy. The form factor can't be beat--it easily fits in your pocket--so it goes everywhere you could want but wouldn't take a larger handheld. The video is crisp. Even low light video retains good quality.
The screen is tiny, but you get used to it. You capture more detail than you can see on screen. You learn to trust to point it where you want and know it's going to capture all the details even if you can't see them while recording.
The big drawback is the lack of stabilization. If your hand isn't perfectly steady, you're video will be jittery. If you're moving a lot while recording, you'll get seasick watching the video played back. If you use a tripod, you're golden.
I wouldn't use this to record long ceremonies or special occasions without a tripod, but otherwise it's great. I've taken it on family vacations and use it around the house all the time to capture great moments of my children. I use it the way I used to use a still camera but get more context with video.
The included software is also great. It automatically downloads and organizes video from the Mino when you plug it in via the built in USB jack (which I love--no cable to worry about). All in all, it's a great buy under $200.

What's not to love about this terrific little camcorder?! Our last camcorder was purchased about 9 yrs ago and was a top of the line Sony. It's case (inc accessories) is the size of a shoe box-augh! I found we were not using it hardly at all. I never remembered to bring it along, or check if the batteries were charged. It's still a great camera but requires too much forethought and planning. I decided to give the Flip a try for it's size and simplicity. I thought it would be better to get any shots, even if they were of slightly less quality, than no shots at all. I keep my Flip in my purse and it is smaller than my cell phone. I don't have to think about it at all it's always on the ready to grab the moment. I love it's convienence, it's just like the split third row folding seats in my Honda Odyssey. If I need it at any time it's there ready for use in a moments notice. All you have to do is plug the camera into a port on your computer and the Flip Share program opens automatically. Just click on the labeled menu buttons to choose what you want to do. It's idiot proof, all you have to do is be able to read. The options of what you can do with your camera footage is outstanding. I really can't think of anything that I want to do with this camcorder that I can't do. We recently had five kids playing on a slip and slide in our yard and was able to grab some single frame stills from the video camera footage which was amazing!! We were able to click frame by frame on the footage playback to get the most awesome single photograph of our neighbors 3 girls all ending up in the bottom of the slide at once! Like any digital camera has that kind of shutter control, not!! All in all these Flip camcorders are super fabulous. Now all you have to do is pick the one that suits your personality in design-how fun is that!!

This is a great little toy! Love, love it. You can put in pocket and take out anywhere. It takes great video. I gave it as a gift and I want to buy one for myself now!

It's a great device, but if anything breaks you're hosed. IMO, if hardware costs more than $200 MSRP, the manufacture shouldn't make repairs impossible.
