Shaved 20 min. off of my husband's commute! February 18, 2010 Bookhead 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This gadget is great, I mean just great. I bought it as a xmas gift for my husband. He's in love with the thing. It even shaved off 20 min. from his daily commute. It's easy to use, always on par with directions, never leads us astray.
The only little issue we've seen is the traffic. We are in a mid-sized city and sometimes it'll say "oncoming traffic" but there is none. But...if you look on the other side of the freeway there IS traffic. huh. No biggie though.
Otherwise, best bang for the buck. I guess I'd say to get the exact same one without the traffic option.
p.s. - Amazon held up its promise to deliver by xmas eve. They even got the package to me earlier than the estimated delivery date. Free shipping. I love Amazon!!!!!!!!

for many weeks I have been researching for a GPS and finally decided to buy this one. If you do a careful research you will see that it has many advantages versa TomTom. I did not like the idea that I had to go first in the dataplace in TomTom to delete some features in order to upload all the maps. If it is already not working from the start why would I bother.
This one has great features such as announcing the street names (very very helpful) and showing all street names of the street you are on and the crossing streets, fast in recalculating but I haven't tried it yet in Boston where you find big buildings that might interfere with the reception. However some routes it gives me different directions going there then driving home which I thought was interesting. I tried it on several routes that I know the directions very well and I was surprised about this. However I did not loose time using different routes but I was not faster either so it was fine...
For the money I spent (150 Dollars) a great buy and I would highly recommend this.

My only other experience with a GPS has been with a 2 year old TomTom One (xl?). All of my comments are relative to that unit. First off, it is slow in aquiring sats and finding POI's. Its display is pretty barren and lacks user customization. The TomTom can be configured to show arrival time, present time, elapsed time, remaining time, etc. etc. The Garmin gives you speed and estimated arrival time, period. It often tells you to turn less than 50 ft. from the corner- too late. Sitting in my driveway, the "where am I ?" function consistently told me I was at either my next door neighbor's house or the house of a neighbor behind me (300ft. away)- very annoying. It will tell you that you are 100ft. or more from an intersection while you are already in it, turning. But the real dealbreaker was the need to turn it to max. volume in order to hear it (no, I'm not hard of hearing and my car is pretty quiet), and the sound is distorted at max. volume. I tried two units, both no good. Both went back. I still haven't chosen a GPS.
Feature rich GPS February 17, 2010 T. Whitley (Georgia USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased two 265WTs for gifts.Have heard nothing but praise for the units and would buy again. Both have used the traffic features. Don't like the window bracket as well as my older Nuvi 650.

Had a 3 year old Garmin Street Pilot (about $300) that worked fine and thought I'd keep for a long time. My sister convinced me to buy a new one, which had updated maps (I live in a new subdivision), gave street names at turns and gave traffic alerts. I still thought I'd make due with the Street Pilot, until I found the 265WT for $149. Instead of using a scroll wheel it had a qwerky keyboard, wide screen, great resolution and bluetooth capability (haven't used yet). Also, my Street Pilot could be updated for about $70 for one map, but with the 265WT, I could get updates for as long as I own the device, up to 4 times a year, for a one time price of about $120. Since I'm retired now and doing more traveling, I decided to get this. Garmin has the best customer service, so I'd never consider buying another brand. Had previously contacted them regarding problems with the windshield attachment, which they readily replaced, but have since bought the dash beanbag, which is the best. At this time, I don't anyone could find at better GPS for this price.
