My experience aligns with most reviews I've read January 31, 2009 David (Maryland, USA) 126 out of 133 found this review helpful
I've read CNET, Amazon and several other reviews prior to my purchase. I bought this unit and the Zenith DTT901 so I could compare the two. The Zenith feels like it's built better, has a better remote, better on-screen guide and seems to produce a better picture - HOWEVER, the Tivax receives more channels (~30 compared to ~20 with the Zenith--in my area) - I've compared both units connected to the same TV with the same "rabbit ear" antenna. Also, the Tivax has a switch on the rear for Channel 3 or 4 output - with the Zenith this option is software controlled. Zenith's technical support was Outstanding - I haven't had to call Tivax. I paid $10 more for the Zenith - so overall I'd say I'm happy with both considering what I paid - I enjoy using the Zenith more.
Absolute Rubish January 4, 2009 Eric Unangst (Cleveland, Ohio) 4 out of 11 found this review helpful
This converter box is absolute rubbish. I have two, one crapped out and does not power on, the other only picks up a few channels. Swapped out the unit(s) with a competitive product, and low and behold, it works fine.
Very happy with this unit January 2, 2009 roketdr (up in space) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Works as advertised. It appears to be solidly constructed and well thought out. Good features, especially the signal strength meter. I also like the button on the remote that changes the aspect ratio of the display -- very convenient.
I was surprised to see how many digital channels I could get -- I went from one good analog channel to 60 digital channels after installation. For the antenna, all you will probably need is a regular UHF antenna (the round loop, not the rabbit ears). I have always used a powered antenna, but did not need to buy a new antenna. The digital signal is quite directional, so the signal strength meter helps a lot in finding the right angle to place the antenna at.
tivax STB-T8 equals garbage squared December 24, 2008 T. Nicholas 8 out of 17 found this review helpful
This box is absolutely garbage! As other reviews have mentioned, the signal level fluctuates and the picture drops, freezes, and pixelizes frequently. I connected an amplified antenna to this device and got 4 grainy looking channels in a major metropolitan area.

i have rca, ensignia, and this tivax boxes. all 3 boxes pick up the same number of channels. tivax drops the signal every few secodns. signal level fluctuates from high to low and it's very annoying. tivax is going back for exchange for another brand.
