Comments on Tivax STB-T8 Digital converter November 12, 2009 Pizza Man (Northwest Chicago suburb) I searched the internet for some popular brands and saw lots of negative comments. I came across the Tivax as a recommended model on the government website. AFter looking it up on Amazon and other places I saw mostly positive comments so bought one. It worked very well and I've had it for 2 months. So I bought one for Mom's place and that ones working well too. I have 3 Insigna's but cold not easily find one around. The Tivax works just about as well as the Insigna.
Not as advertised! November 11, 2009 R. Labonte (south jersey) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Although this is probably a great product, it does not come as advertised. It seems they forgot to mention that these boxes are absolutely NO good with either cable or FIOS. They only work with external antennae. So, if you have cable or FIOS and are looking to hook up your non digital TV's and get all the extra stations with this box, your not going to get it, unless you want to buy an external antenna and an A/B switch to switch between your cable and the outside antennna. Good luck with that.
Slight advantage over the RCA converter November 8, 2009 GuitarGuy (Westbury, NY USA) I have been using the RCA converter since February, 2009. I have been using the Tivax converter for only about 4 months. The TV's in my household are powered on for 20 hours per day. The Tivax has a slight advantage over the RCA box. The clincher: Tivax has a slight advantage over the RCA box in that the signal button is placed right on the face of the remote. Whereas, the RCA remote requires navigating through several steps and sub-menus before getting to the signal strength meter. This makes a world of difference because you can confirm the signal strength of the program that you are watching. At the beginning of the TV program, you want to know ahead of time whether you can rely on sitting through the entire show without having the picture fall-out at critical points in the show. I like both the RCA and the Tivax. But if I had to choose only one converter box, I would choose the Tivax.
BTW: I purchased the Tivax item throught Amazon.com and I was completely satisfied with the efficient manner that the purchase was handled and delivered, i.e. Very Fast delivery!
Don't do it November 4, 2009 Paul Coleman (California) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Did not work as I understood it. Does NOT work with cable. Is not a HD tuner for a TV that is HD ready. YOU MUST USE A HD ANTENNA. And then Amazon will not accept a return. Extremely DISAPPOINTED. LAME! I would give it Zero Stars but thats not possible.
Useless - ZERO Stars November 4, 2009 joefromjersey (Eastampton, NJ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Works intermittantly - when it works. No ability to tune in a station. Zero reliability. long delay when syncing to the next station. Very frustrating. I would never recommend this product to anyone.
