Awesome!! Got Ooma and dropped my cable company's phone bill!!! February 21, 2010 john frankford 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't submit many reviews, unless I'm really, really excited about the product. What a fantastic design, fantastic concept, and great product!
Three BIG pluses for me personally in using the Ooma:
1. NO MORE PHONE BILLS!!! It will pay for itself in about 7 months for me personally; after that, it's money in the bank.
2. SUPER LOW ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION. The Ooma Hub doesn't require a computer hook-up (unlike MagicJack). You might think this is not an important factor, but believe me, it is -- computers drain many, many watts of power each hour they are functioning, which can add up to a lot of money. The Ooma Hub only uses 8 watts of power (I measured it using a Kill-a-Watt attached to the unit, in case you're wondering about the accuracy of my information), so it is only costing me about $5 over an entire year to run the device.
3. EXCELLENT CALL QUALITY---my wife and I cannot tell the difference over our regular cable company's phone service. Great clarity!
The "instant second line" feature is a cool feature to have if you talk on the phone a lot. My wife and I normally don't talk that much on the phone, so we opted for the basic plan; but what a great idea and added function if we ever need it in the future.
Took about 20 minutes to install, but once you've got it set up (which is still pretty easy), you're done.
International cost higher than expected February 20, 2010 Cynthia E. Heath 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service BillsAfter purchasing the phone and setting it up. It was very difficult to prepay for time. But the worst thing is that originally it said 2.4 cents to call Spain but looking deeper I discovered it cost 37 cents to call a Cell phone in Spain. I only pay 25 cents with ATT!!!! Are you kidding! What a great deal. Not.
Used to adore Ooma.. then they got greedy February 18, 2010 zengadgetz (New York, United States) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Dont buy the Ooma Hub. They promised us all the same features the Telo would have, but they've since taken those away from us.
Im sure they'll do the same with the Ooma Telo once they release something new. They expect us to upgrade a $250 machine when we've just purchased it.
Shame on you Ooma. Stop forcing us to upgrade.
Blows away Magic Jack! February 16, 2010 Mach (Columbus, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We purchased the Ooma system after struggling with Magicjack for a couple of months. Although Magicjack is supposed to work on even the most basic broadband speeds, we did not have luck with a 2MB per second cable internet connection. We gave Ooma a try, and we have been very impressed. Setup was a breeze, and the voice quality is great. Occasionally there is an echo that can be heard on my end, but it is rare. The system is connected between the modem and the router, so it is designed to prioritize phone calls over all other internet activity. Like other voips, if the internet is down, you have no phone, but as long as you have a reliable connection, this should not be a problem. All in all, I feel that this is a tremendous product. Although the startup cost is fairly steep, it will begin paying off immediately. The system will pay for itself easily in under a year. Depending on your phone bill, probably much sooner than that.
VOIP Review February 14, 2010 Lawrence Robert Stewart This is afantastic product to eliminate monthly phone bills. The Ooma unit allows you to make local and long distance calls using your existing land line phone through your internet service. If you want to keet your same number, Ooma will port it to your phone for additional cost.
You receive and make land line calls as usual. You set up an Ooma account to register the unit. Then you can use the internet to see your missed calls and get messsages.
