I'd give it five stars if it weren't for the AA batteries! September 29, 2007 Melissa Niksic (Chicago, IL United States) 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
So far I'm really enjoying my new Flip Video! The Ultra Series model holds 60 minutes of video in its built-in memory. It's very lightweight and is perhaps a tad bit smaller in size than an iPod. The device is extremely easy to use. It has a decent-size screen on the back to view your videos. There's a one-button record and stop command, a play button, and a delete button so you can trash your videos right away if you're not happy with them. The camcorder has a digital zoom function and produces good quality video. It has a built-in microphone that works really well, and also has an attached USB connector that you can flip out and plug directly into your computer. There's built-in software on the Flip Video that you can install as soon as you connect the device to your computer. The software is great and allows you to instantly upload your videos to Web sites like YouTube.
My only big complaint about the Flip Video is that it runs on two AA batteries. Every other electronic device on the market comes with some kind of rechargeable battery...why not this one? Also, another minor complaint: The record/stop button doesn't always work right away. I usually have to press it a couple of times before I can start or stop recording, which is kind of annoying.
Overall, though, this is a great camcorder for the price. If you want to shoot high-tech videos, you'll probably want to invest in a slightly better piece of equipment. However, if you just want something to make short, fun videos to share with your family and friends, the Flip Video is a perfect fit.
Love it! September 28, 2007 Carole Goetzelmann (Cincinnati, Oh) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
Well, I was trying to get my old camcorder to interface with my computer when I saw this little gizmo on the news. What a blast I've been having with it! I wasn't expecting much for $150, but the videos are really nice quality. I haven't used the software much. I just go into the folder and pull out .avi files for editing elsewhere. It's only drawback is that it doesn't have an optical zoom.
So easy to use, so convenient to carry September 25, 2007 The Truth (NY, NY) 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
I recently bought this for my boyfriend and although it's only been a short time, he couldn't be happier.
I had bought him a Canon camcorder about 3 years ago and little by little he hasn't been using it that much due to the hassle of toting it around. Now with the Flip, I can hold it in my pocketbook for him because it's so lightweight. It's portable, it's affordable, the quality is great and for non-gadget people like us, it's so easy to use.
I love it so much, I'm planning on buying one for myself.
Breakthrough Product September 24, 2007 Andrew Friedman (Chicago, IL) 28 out of 29 found this review helpful
This is a great little camera. I'm an experienced user. I did buy the previous Flip model and liked it - except for the sound quality. This little gem has great sound quality, even better video and a nice price. The Record button can be a little tough to push. User your fingernail to push it and you'll be fine. Ease of use via computer interface is amazing. Hint: click tools-options and check "automatically download codecs" in your Windows Movie Maker to ensure it recognizes the files you import. Handy software is included if you want to upload right to YouTube.
Easy to use and excellent quality! September 24, 2007 J. Segil (Los Angeles) 50 out of 51 found this review helpful
I've have been using both this version of the Flip Video Camcorder and the older version and find both cameras to be easy to use, high quality and tremendous value for sub $200.
With a single push of a button the camera is powered up and ready to go. I can take short videos and long videos. It's especially good for taking shots of my little 5 month old son and easily uploading them online for friends and family to see. Plus it's virtually indestructible - I've dropped it many times and it works just fine.
The software is easy to use and I love that it doesn't need to install on my computer. I hate having to insert a disk and deal with having another lame application taking up space on my computer. Everything runs off of the camera and runs fast!
I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a simple, reliable, sturdy camcorder. Especially if you plan on uploading videos to the web.
