Great function and is step in right direction for HP calcs. August 25, 2009 Audio Guy in NC I used the legacy HP's 'back in the day,' in the space program, and the 35S is reminiscent of the 35 and 45 in many respects. That "Mr. Hewlett" was involved in setting the parameters of the early HP's, the 35S design is certainly informed by his design instructions and the implementation of his team. Can you imagine suddenly being able to have such great handhelds after going through college using sliderules? So for those of us legacy people, this calculator is certainly interesting to own I'd say, like a re-do of a vintage Collins Radio ham radio receiver. The processor of the 35S does not go through calculations as fast as the original 35 and 45 (my experience), and there is something about the 35S keys that doesn't look the same, but the press-feel is very close. For new calculator users and students, I'd think the 35S is a great calculator, and you can use RPN or algebraic, so that is great. I hope HP takes a hint from this model as well as what I see is a tremendous liking of the HP32Sii, to continue its design in these directions---solid, HP engineering feel, and great functionality; the HP 35/45 of old plus the 41 (which went up in the Shuttle) represented great human factors and functionality. It was the HP 35 and 45 that encouraged me to take a look at HP laptops when they were initially introduced---I wanted that quality, and I still do! If HP can go 'post Carley,' such as the 35S seems to represent, but go deeper, things will be great in the future for HP calculators.
Hooked on RPN August 16, 2009 Michael C. Leigh 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I always used HP calculators ever since they started making them. At this point in time RPN is so natural to me that other methods cause me to make the grrr.. sound.
hard to turn ON August 15, 2009 Gabriel G. Grimes (NYC) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my 1st HP, I bought it for use during the upcoming PE exam, the problem I've detected to this point is that when I press the ON key like I would press any other key the calculator does not respond, I have to apply alot more pressure to get it started.
I'am somewhat concern that it may fail me during to exam, my back-up is the Casio fx-115 es, both calculators are approved for use during the exam, I actually prefer the HP because it has more functions and better manipulation, but I don't like the reliability issue I'am having with the ON button.
It may just be this unit, but, I have an older version of the Casio, this calculator is at least 7-10 years old and starts up everytime.
HP 35s August 11, 2009 SteveL (San Fernando, CA United States) Collected many HP calculators. Bought this one from Amazon directly since I cannot stand dealing with HP customer dis-service. The calculator did not come with operating manual but one was offered if you called HP service. Just to show you these jokers can even screw up a book they jammed the manual in a box that was too small for the book breaking the back of the book then sent it. The calculator is fine.
hp35s - great little calculator August 10, 2009 Arthur T. Zimmerman This is a great calculator for those times you don't want to drag out your larger graphing calculator to do some quick math. I like the keypad layout, the feel of the keys when pressed, and the use of the larger "enter" key on the left side of the keypad. I like the features of the hp35s, especially the statistics functions. Great value for the price!!
