5 out of 5 stars This is a great photo editing program   August 31, 2009

This is a great photo editing program. Alot to learn and yet so much that you can do with it. You can take a nice picture and make it a wow picture.

So many new elements that you can do with this version. Learning is now fun and more interesting, though frustrating at times.

1 out of 5 stars Yikes. Wish I had not 'upgraded'   August 30, 2009

I don't write a lot of reviews - but this one was a must.

I have used adobe Photoshop for about 5 years. I wanted to do some video editing, so I decided to upgrade photoshop and get premiere. I have not completed one video, and now my wife is refusing to do the photos. I have had the programs for ~4 months. (FYI, 3.5 Gig RAM, XP, 1.86 Dual Core)

Photoshop:
Photoshop crashes all the time. This is a major issue. It hangs even when the program is just starting up. I have mitigated some of the problems by limiting the number of files/folders it can look through. But it always seems to be looking for something. Things have also gotten better since I did a restore/fix of the catalog. Don't know quite what it did, but at least it starts up most of the time now. The only new/cool feature is the face finder and sync with the web-page. These two features are NOT worth upgrading.

Premiere:
What can I say. I am having a hard time figuring it out, the settings are complex, and the thing is SLOW. I am a pretty forgiving guy (I have an AV setup that would make most wives cry - complete with home-made DVRs). But I get memory exceptions, hangs, slow-downs, and every other hiccup you can imagine. I am really considering just going out and buying a mac so I can do videos. Some simple things really bring it to it's knees. For example, the default is that it looks through EVERY picture you have when you try to load in new video file. That means it is looking through a DECADE of photos and displaying previews for each. Needless to say, this causes a serious headache.

I loved the original Photoshop - but if you buy this - good luck....

I baught the product to edit a video. I have used Adobe in the past for pictures and it works well. The video is more difficult to use. It does work well but not as easy to use.

5 out of 5 stars I plan to update and take advantage of the rebate   August 30, 2009

I had the honor of working at Adobe for almost three years. I know people who are still there, thank goodness, here in San Jose, California. Given that Adobe still takes the time to Design and Release their products in the USA, and given the quality of their products, combined with the fact that Elements is the complete Photoshop engine with simply a different UI to access it, it is Always worth upgrading. If you have the current version there is no real reason not to do so. What ever issues exist it is my experience that Adobe addresses them with customers and provides updates that can be automatically installed by setting your products to do so in the preferences. Also, if Adobe is taking the opportunity to combine this version with a rebate and a interactive social site, all the more reason to LEAVE all those other locations that are filled with nothing but children or attention seekers and really build a community based on creativity, education, and collaboration. I fully support this version and look forward to seeing what the created and good people at Adobe have up their sleeve. Keep friends and family employed in the U.S. and abroad by BUYING your Adobe software products and not pirating them. Adobe is one of the few companies left with integrity and commitment to it's employees and its customers, and I respect that and support them at any opportunity. They are honest, hard working, and talented folks, and their passion for software shows with every product release even if it isn't a major 'new feature driven' release.

1 out of 5 stars Adobe Photoshop Elements 7..quite a bit to grasp!!   August 29, 2009

Several business acquaintences have recommended Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 to me but I have been hesitant to purchase this product because of the initial price of over $100. Finally, Amazom discounted the dual cd package of Photo Shop Elements 7 and Premier Elements 7 so I purchased the package.

I have never done much digital potography editing except in my Kodak Easyshare software. After installing the program I have found that learning the program features, especially for a Novice, is mind boggling. If you are like me you have several choices since the documentation that comes with the software is minimual. There are several books designed to "Teach" the PhotoShop Elements 7 and Video Professor has cds out "tutoring" the subject.

So, my main decision after purchasing the software package is, "Where do I go from here?"
