Accurate Portrayal of Inappropriate Affections November 6, 2006 John C. Shores 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is a sequel to "Twilight" which is a story of a teenage girl and a vampire boy who fall in love. It scores well in that there are no occult references and simply implies the same kind of thinking that JK Rowling implies when asking "What if..." to the question of the existence of vampires. If you are a Christian and oppose Harry Potter, avoid this book. If, however, you are mature enough to know that fiction is fiction then this book is highly recommended with one caveat.
This sequal is replete with the dark side of being in love at a very young and stupid age and is an accurate portrayal of the depths of depression that a young girl inevitably goes through because she had made the vampire boy the object of her highest worship and affection. When that worshipful and beautiful immortal is removed from her life (by an beautiful act of love that is rarely portrayed well in juvenile fiction), her reasons for living become pretty much nil.
This book, like Twilight, is well written and thoughtfully conceived. It is an excellent tool for fathers such as myself to teach our daughters of the dangers of placing their deepest and most sacred affections in anyone other than our Father God who will never leave us or forsake us. I have found it to be an excellent springboard to discussing relationships with my daughters and this, in my opinion, is the highest value of this work.
I do not recommend any teenage girl to read this book without also sharing it with her father and/or mother as it has a truly addictive quality to it, as all great love stories do, that might turn the child's perceptions of what love ought to be on its head. Impressionable young gilrs will love this book but will not get the most profit from it without some parental guidance.
Just As Good As The First November 6, 2006 D. Milam (Pomona CA USA) This book is excellant, following with the tradition of the first, Twilight. You ought to read it twice, or you miss most of the middle section.
New Moon November 6, 2006 K. Bauer (California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a sequel, this book lived up to its expectations and I am very excited for Eclipse to come out next fall. I read all of Anne Rice's books in her "Vampire Chronicles" series, as well as Ellen Schreiber, to name a few, but Stephenie Meyer has an edge no one else quite has.
New Moon review November 6, 2006 Katherine Cousino (WV, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
New Moon was a very good book considering its amazing imagery and plot. However, I found that the only problem with the plot is its ending. I can understand that, though, because it is, afterall, a sequel and a sequel's ending is never as good as the first's. Read it and decide for yourself, though, because it's still definitely worth reading, just like any other book written by Stehpanie Meyer.
Stephanie does it again! November 6, 2006 Jenna Holland (UIUC) Once again, Stephanie Meyer turns out an absolutely enthralling book. It is difficult to believe that the wonder that is "Twilight" was her first attempt at a novel. I am a voracious reader and currently an English major in college but these books are definately my favorites. Meyer has a way of sucking you into her world, of becoming a part of the lives of her characters. When I got my copy of New Moon, I sat down in my room and read it basically straight through. I'm sure that my new roommates thought that I was crazy. It is a book that captures you. You can't read it without crying...a lot. I cried through most of the book, but not always in a bad way. By the end, they were happy tears. The only thing left to say is...don't hate Jacob! I know that most people who read New Moon tend to hate him, but I adored him completely. If it wasn't for Edward...he would be any girl's dream.
