Great book for anyone, whether presenting, speaking in meetings, or interviewing for your next job. September 19, 2008 D. McDonnell 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book before I boarded a plane on the way to an interview. This book was heaven sent, I used all of the suggestions and techniques and I'm confident it helped me ace the interview and get a fantastic offer!
I would reccomend it to anyone who has to speak in meetings, work in sales, give presentations, or, interview for a job. I do wish it had some more interview specific advice but it was a big help. It was a very easy read, I finished it during a 5 hour flight...
Exceptional Presenter is a Great Primer September 9, 2008 JTB (Cleveland, OH, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Exceptional Presenter is a great primer for someone who is inexperienced at making presentations. That having been said, it is also a great review tool for those who make presentations on a regular basis and there are bits and pieces for even the experienced presenter. I purchased for my entire training dept.
Outstanding August 2, 2008 Lloyd R. Johnson (Bronx, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is excellent. Having been a presenter for many years I still have a lot to learn. The biggest room in the world is the room for self improvement. This book has filled a large void. I recommend it for anyone presenter or not.

The Exceptional Presenter: A Proven Formula to Open Up and Own the Room
What a great book. Covers speaking to body language. However I'm surprised that he never mentioned Toastmasters. This is a great book for a new Toastmaster or a seasoned TM.
A practical, real-world guidebook June 2, 2008 L. F. Smith (E. Wenatchee, WA) This is a short, readable, down-to-earth guidebook to improving oral communication in a business context. The author's purpose is in the title-- The Exceptional Presenter-- and everything in the book is directed toward that purpose.
The advice ranges from how to stand in front of your audience and gesture without feeling awkward to how to deal with challenges during question/answer sessions. Every tip is a short, easily digested block, and the tone is just right. He focuses on one point: Public speaking can be very stressful, and a lot can go wrong during a presentation; however, some thought about the structure of the presentation and some work on the mechanics of presentation can lower that stress and give the presenter a much greater chance of success.
He stresses one principle above all others: Preparation and practice are critical. Public speaking is a skill that, like all other skills, requires practice.
I'm a former college debater and high school debate coach, and I'm currently an active member of Toastmasters. I know quite a bit about public speaking, but I learned some things from this book. It's a practical, well-written guidebook that will almost certainly reward anyone who reads it.
