Ridiculous and Idiotic January 1, 2010 Book Worm 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If I would be allowed to rate this a zero, I would. This is a cheap and desperate way use the recent Jane Austen revival to one's advantage. What is with the zombies and vampires in today's modern literature?! And now we have stooped as low as to make a mockery out of some of the greatest, most genuine novels ever written? We ought to be ashamed. Regardless of the "humor" and "modern twists" weaved into this book and many others like it, my sole advice to such "second-rate" authors is to perhaps try their hands and minds at creating their own plots and characters rather than modifying the work of others. Dickens and Austen wrote vividly about human interaction in a time when life seemed more genuine. Their characters always possessed integrity and intelligence, regardless of their trying circumstances. These modern novels, however, are devoid of any real wit, imagination and inventiveness. It is truly disappointing to learn what makes the bestseller list these days. As a true Dickens and Austen fan, I find it shameful.
Cool Idea but poor execution December 31, 2009 Christine L McKimmie I loved the concept of this book so was very disappointed when I actually read it. The zombie parts were poorly written and seem to just be inserted into the book at random. I also agree with a previous poster - it would make sense to have only Elizabeth and Jane be the martial arts experts. To have the other sisters be zombie slayers as well goes against how Jane Austen characterized them.
spectacular. December 31, 2009 already having been a original pride and prejudice fan i was sceptical on this book. then i read it and was blown away. such a good interesting twist on this original. a must read.
Gratuitous Escapism! December 30, 2009 Nora Moore I am, and will always remain a big fan of the original. That being said, I picked this one up as a lark. I absolutely loved how the author incorporated the zombie story line while staying true to Austen's original story (at least as true as you can be while fighting zombies). Knowing the original, I had many moments where I laughed out loud, getting strange looks from the people around me. I recommend this book to anyone who loves P&P or zombies. This book is a wonderful telling of a regency horror story. Absolutely fabulous!
Fun December 30, 2009 Shelton (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just finished this book and I really enjoyed it. It's fun and quirky. The zombies relieve the formal tension without getting rid of it. It should be an enjoyable book for new age teenagers.
