5 out of 5 stars Even helps old parents learn new tricks   September 8, 2007
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

We bought this to help our daughter, and found to our surprise it is full of quick ideas and tricks to help anyone remember/learn math. And yes- it definitely is written with girls in mind. I think having someone recognizable to many of us (Danica McKellar) also helps- "Wow- she is smart too??!!" No matter how much parents stress that school is more important than cool, kids seem to look for outside for reassurances that this is true- and this book helps a lot.

5 out of 5 stars My Granddaughter loves it.   September 4, 2007

My wife and I saw a news feature about Danica and her book and were impressed. Since our youngest granddaughter was entering middle-school this year and is having problems understanding math, we thought this might help her. She's an avid reader and was tested and found to be at the college level with her reading skills, so we know she's not brain-dead.
My daughter has commented that the last two math teachers at my granddaughter's school have left the students feeling like they weren't very good teachers.
Our grandaughter was looking forward to recieving the book if for no other reason than it has a cool title, but so far it seems to be living up to it's purpose. She's excited about it since she's already understanding things that she was totally confused about before getting the book. I'm glad we bought it for her.

5 out of 5 stars Math is fun again!   September 3, 2007

I purchased this book for my daughter who was just a bit intimindated about going to a new school and new subjects. It is a hoot! She got a fun introduction to middle school with a reminders of how to do some basic math. At this age it all comes down to confidence and this book can help.

1 out of 5 stars Math WHAT??   September 2, 2007

This book is typical of the air-headed drivel coming out of the entertainment world these days. It's just a re-hash of what your teacher said in "child-speak", reinforcing all of the shallow and dopey antics you wouldn't want your child to imitate. Astrology? Come on! None of the three kids I asked were impressed or even interested: ("No thank you", "stupid", and "I ain't readin' that"). I returned it.

5 out of 5 stars Math sucked. Now it doesn't   September 2, 2007

Math Doesn't Suck is a book that every girl from 5th grade to the 7th or 8th grade should read. It's funny, smart, and makes you look at math from a completely new perspective. The book not only makes math glamorous, but also helps girls build confidence and become independent. One of the most common problems with middle school girls is that they are very smart, but don't want to show it, in fear of building a reputation as a nerd. This book helped me in that situation...and most of my friends. Danica McKellar has succeeded in making math easy and fun to understand.
