The REAL people behind the fall of Bear July 13, 2009 Cheryl B. (Chicago, IL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Getting a background on the people behind the fall of Bear Stearns was most interesting. Now the names having meaning and significance. Nice to know there really was a "human" side to the greedy Wall Streeters. Too bad so many talented, hard-working people bore the brunt of the firm's collapse.
Well Done By the Author July 13, 2009 John H. Eckert (Ellicott City, MD, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Tedious in part but fascinating in others. The inner workings (or non-workings) of Wall Street are revealed in detail.
An Absolutely Riveting Hour-by-Hour Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Failure of Bear Stearns June 30, 2009 R. Hershberger (Rochester, MN) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This the most fascinating book I have ever read. I do not work on Wall Street, however, I am fascinated by it. I remember vividly watching the whole Bear disaster from afar. That entire weekend I was constantly checking the internet for updates on the situation. I felt quite confident that I was witnessing history in the making.
This book gave me the ability to go behind the scenes and get an hour-by-hour look at what happened. From my standpoint I found out what was happening to Bear Stearns after the press releases were released. This book allows me to see what transpired behind the scenes leading up to the press release.
The author also does a fantastic job of giving a background on the culture and executives of Bear, as well as the other Wall Street executives involved in this transaction. Another thing that makes this book so amazing is how the author bring it to life. It's almost like watching a movie. The real emotions of the executives, as well as the conversations that took place are all brought to life throughout the book.
It is definitely the best book I have ever read. For anyone who watched from a distance like I did, this is an absolute must-read. I would strongly recommend it.
Excellent June 28, 2009 Louise Tanner 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is excellent and informative. The research was impressive. The author was able to convey convey to the reader the immediacy of the crisis. It was as though the reader could hear the clock ticking.
SHOCKED BY THIS GREAT READ! June 22, 2009 Jill Wadsworth (Greenwich, CT.) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was upset to discover, on a recent weekend getaway, that I had forgotten the biography I had been looking forward to reading poolside. I grabbed this book from my husband's pile, positive I would find it boring and incomprehensible. I am not interested in finance at all, and I know ZERO about Wall Street. Boy was I surprised.
This book is a fantastic page turner, and a fascinating look at a world I didn't know a thing about. The author draws you in with amazing skill, and turns a subject I had thought of as dry into a terrific read. The characters are compelling, as is their story, and the writing itself grips you until the very last page. Don't shy away from this book if banking is not something you're passionate about, it's a great read!
