get the corrected version November 20, 2009 Clifford G. Wayne The first printing (which was the one that I bought) had a number of errors in it. It has since been reprinted with corrections. Be sure you have the 2nd printing not the first. I have to get the corrected version now since I actually have to use it.
Easy to follow, but with some errors! November 19, 2009 FRAN (NY, NY USA) This 6th edition has some discrepancies and a new revision will be available after Jan. 2010. Wait for the revised edition and refer to the 5th edition if one is needed for now.
Don't waste your money November 19, 2009 Krazyas (Northeast USA) There are too many errors in this version. Thus, the book is useless. Wait until version two comes out to purchase it.
Errors in 6th Edition---APA's response November 18, 2009 Peggy (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just felt that someone should correct the "record" about how APA is handling the errors in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition. I read several reviews warning buyers of the many errors in the manual, and the reviewers made a point of saying that APA refuses to replace the books free of charge, although the corrections are available by clicking on the Corrections area of the home page.
However, when I wrote to APA telling them how disappointed I was that the only thing available was the pdf document containing the corrections, and that I thought they should really be issuing a recall and replacing the books, they sent me a very polite note back, almost immediately. They explained that many people who have already purchased the books have found that the corrections document meets their needs, and that in fact they ARE willing to replace the books so long as someone notifies them that they want them replaced.
So---if you are thinking of buying a 6th edition new, you may want to wait for the second printing, but if you have already bought one and would like a replacement, I'd say take a few minutes and write them an e-mail. They are making a good-faith effort to give people assistance, and I don't think it solves anything to pan them in public like this and then not take the time to update the record.
first printing November 18, 2009 Brooke Before you buy the APA 6th edition, make sure that it is the second printing. I recently bought the book new on Amazon and discovered that it was the first printing-- which has mistakes. I now have to send it to APA to get a new copy.
