4 out of 5 stars Not a magic CD, but helpful   October 25, 2003

I looked at other people's reviews before I took my DAT two weeks ago. I think those reviews are very helpful, so I am sharing my experience with this product and DAT. As said by others, the science part is difficult in this disk. I'd made 18 to 20s with this CD, but 22 for Bio, 28 for Gen, and 25 for Org in the real test. I am very happy with my scores especially about biology because I'd never got 20 with this CD. I had been studying biology intensively for the last one week before the test. You really have to know a lot about it to get a good score. I had a few questions about enzyme in the real one. I knock one star down because the PAT in this CD is far too easy compared to the real one. I got 22 or 23 with the three tests on this CD, so I didn't work on PAT at all. However I only got 19 in the real one. I should have done better than this, but I was kind of overwelmed in the first few minutes in that section. Reading and quantatition were fairly easy. Well, that's about it. The CD simulates the real test pretty well and it helped a lot with my study. Just don't totally rely on it. Good luck to you guys.

5 out of 5 stars Best product on the market   October 1, 2003

The topscore cd in my opinion is the best product on the market to test yourself for the DAT. The simulation is flawless compared to the actual test, and the questions are fairly equivilent in difficulty to the actual exam. I took the DAT around 3 weeks ago and scored a 22!

On this CD I was scoring an 18 so I went up 4 whole points!
I personally believe that a Kaplan course is a waste of money. i recomend buying this CD in conjunction with the fat kaplan blue book along with lippincott and barrons review and you should be able to get a 20+ after about 5 weeks of hardcore studying.

4 out of 5 stars DAT TopScore Pro vs Real   September 23, 2003

I took the example of DAT from TopScore, and then real one several days ago. I could say this is pretty good software. When I took practice tests, I only got around 19-20 over all 3 tests. The tests were pretty harder than real one. Perception is much easier than real.
On the Biology part, as you would guess, so many questions that they don't want everybody could answer. So expect you would miss 3-4 questions. In the other hand, general chemistry, organic chemistry, question are just straight forward. Review your class text books is a must. Good news is you don't have to know much about mechanism. I remember may be one or two, but just a teasing mechanisms. Expect to see one or two questions in term of "know it or don't know it" category, and we could not do anything about it. I guess they want to see who is the top and who are not. Other than that I just come from text books. So don't expect Topscore gives you everything.
My weakness is reading because English is not my first language.
I hope you would find it helpfull.

I bought this program and was a Kaplan student as well. The program has its pros & cons. Pros: harder science tests, real simulation, and adds testing experience under your belt. Cons: PAT section is good (but not great: i agree with the other comments from reviewers about angle ranking & keyholes), and there's timing involved in the purchase (you have a 6 month window to work with the CD, and it is NOT a magic bullet, but a vital step in preparation to doing well on the DAT. Before Kaplan and the Proscore programs my DAT scores fluctuated between 15-16 (17 if i was lucky). After intense training at Kaplan coupled with the topscore CD, my scores fluctuated around 18-21. And became very happy with my final DAT score which was a 23 overall (PAT ended up to be 22). These were very good scores...and topscore was a essential part of this achievement. In short; the more practice & the more diversity of questions you are able to work with, the better off your going to be when you take "THE TEST" , and topscore provided that.

5 out of 5 stars A must-have resource   September 8, 2003

You definately need to practice the test process to get used to working under pressure. They really short you on the time for the PAT, Reading Comp and Quantatative Reasoning - so you need to practice working fast. I learned a trick so I could retake the tests again - Uninstall the CD, reinstall it and you can do it again from a fresh test. If you are doing these tests over several months,it really helps to keep going back occassionally to test yourself. The CD expires in 6 months, but you shouldn't be torturing yourself for that long anyway. The biology questions on the actual DAT weren't anything like I saw on this CD or Kaplan, but I guess that is just the luck of the draw. Good Luck!
