Perfect book for teaching yourself Math March 1, 2009 Jennifer J. Gruss (Wantagh, NY USA) This book helped me to relearn all of the basic math concepts on my own. It is an excellent teaching tool.
Our girls no longer complained! February 24, 2009 K. Webster (Cogan Station, Pa USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Last year in our homeschool, we switched to "Mastering Essential Math Skills: Middle Grade/High School, and it was the best switch we could have made. Both girls were to the point of dreading math, and after changing to this program, they now looked forward to math class and could make sense of it because of the step-by-step instructions. Great for 7th-8th grades. Our 2nd daughter actually moved from 5th grade to 7th grade because this program was available.
For a Quick Practice - Reviews But Does not "Teach" January 27, 2009 Fun Life 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
a very, very, very brief review of how to do the problem is presented on each page and provides enough problems to do in 20 minutes.
Look at it in a library before spending money.
Unlike many other books of this type you are not given the right to copy the material for repeated use by a class or a family. Therefore if one student writes in the book it is all done.
As a volunteer in an alternative school and a home school parent I consider this a poor use of money.
Reviewing Basic Math Skills to Precalculus December 3, 2008 Amalia M. Manaois (Portland, OR USA) I bought this book to see if I had missed anything on Geometry. I took Geometry in first year High School and I just wanted to review it. I find the formulas and the problems here helpful. I recommend this book for adults who knows how to read this book better. This book is not recommended for very young adults who had not taken the courses written in this book. The outline and the way the book is organized is a bit jumbled. It definitely needs a bit more structuring than just placing problems and formulas in the book. There are no explanations on how to solve the problem in full explanation with sentences and paragraphs because this book is for review only. So, I really recommend this book for adults who are just reviewing their basic math.
Too Easy, mistakes in answer key October 30, 2008 J New York (New York, NY) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is in no way a high school level book, the problems are more middle school level. Compared to other books like this, this book is too easy for anyone above the 6th grade level. It might be helpful to just have additional problems to help reinforce a topic, but this book is not very helpful at explaining much, AND I found a handful of blatant mistakes in the answer key. A parent who is not savvy enough may not catch the mistakes which would further confuse their child. I wouldn't recommend this book as a stand alone, maybe in addition to other workbooks.
