Good intro for kids to the world of fine art. April 12, 2007 Virginia E. Farrell (Albany, NY United States) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was an art history major in college and am always looking for new ways to bring artists into my children's lives. While there aren't any phenominal projects in the book, there are some great ideas, and some projects that will jog your mind into making your own projects.
Using Discovering Great Artists January 11, 2007 Kelly C. Lewis 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have been moving from the beginning of the book to the end using most of the artists. The art projects are interesting and fairly easy to do with a class of kids. The history of the artist given is very helpful to teach kids about the person and time period.
Fabulous book! January 9, 2007 knittingMom (Nashville, TN) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
We homeschool and have been using this book for first grade art class. My daughter loves it and I am learning at least as much as she is! I figure you can do 1 project a week and that will give you enough for 3 years of art projects! We get library books about the particular artist for the week and I also print a photo of one of the artist's paintings off the internet for her art notebook. We take pictures of her projects and also put them in the notebook. This book hit the mark for us! You won't be sorry if you buy it!
Excellent survey of artists and techniques January 9, 2007 C. Huber (Newark,, DE United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
As an artist myself, I was very pleased to see the breadth of this survey. The tasks for young artist mastery are challenging but manageable and sure to excite a young person's curiosity.
Great, but needs a bit more... December 13, 2006 S. Tanner (Idaho ,United States) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I really enjoy this book. I am a homeschool mom, and we enjoy art. I wanted my children to learn more about non-contemporary artist, so I chose this book. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because it does not have enough of the original artist's work. While teaching, I end up searching the internet to show the kid's what artwork the artist is famous for. Other than that, it is a great book with engaging ideas for children to get them excited about different styles of art.
